We are looking for a skilled, reliable and practical Handyman / Maintenance Person to support the upkeep of our five nursery premises which are all based in West London.
We need someone who is confident carrying out a broad range of hands-on jobs, particularly decorating, general repairs and simple woodwork/carpentry. This would suit someone with strong practical skills who can work independently and take pride in keeping our nursery safe, functional and well presented.
Main duties
The role will include:
- Painting and decorating
- General repairs and maintenance
- Basic carpentry and woodwork
- Repairing or making shelving, storage and wooden fixtures
- Repairing doors, cupboards, gates, locks and handles
- Assembling and repairing furniture
- Minor plumbing repairs
- Wall repairs, filling, sanding and making good
- Fixing and mounting items securely
- Maintaining outdoor areas, fencing and sheds
- Repairing nursery equipment where appropriate
- Carrying out routine maintenance checks
- Identifying jobs that need attention and dealing with them proactively
- Helping with occasional larger maintenance or improvement projects
About you
You will ideally:
- Have a van to take away refuse
- Have previous handyman, property maintenance, carpentry, decorating or similar experience
- Be confident using hand and power tools
- Have good woodwork and general repair skills
- Be able to paint and decorate to a good standard
- Be practical and able to problem-solve
- Work neatly and safely
- Be reliable and trustworthy
- Be able to work independently and prioritise jobs
- Have a good understanding of health and safety
- Be comfortable working in a nursery environment around children and staff
Experience within schools, nurseries or similar premises would be helpful but is not essential.
