Rate: PAYE £118.33 per day
Work Pattern: Minimum of 3 days per week in County Hall, Newport
We're recruiting a Homelessness Reduction Officer to support Adult Social Care & Housing team. This is a front-line advisory role, ideal for candidates with strong housing knowledge, casework skills, and the ability to deliver statutory homelessness duties.
About the Role
As a Homelessness Reduction Officer, you'll assess housing needs, provide tailored advice, and deliver statutory duties under the Housing Act 1996 (as amended). You'll work directly with households at risk of homelessness, creating Personal Housing Plans, liaising with landlords, housing providers, and partner agencies to prevent or relieve homelessness.
What You'll Be Doing
- Receiving housing enquiries from the public, colleagues, and partner agencies
- Interviewing households and assessing eligibility, homelessness, and priority needs under legislation
- Developing tailored Personal Housing Plans with agreed actions to prevent homelessness
- Liaising with landlords, housing associations, Housing Benefit, CAB, Law Centre, and support providers
- Undertaking financial assessments and administering loan agreements with repayment arrangements
- Identifying and securing temporary accommodation where required
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation to evidence casework and outcomes
- Acting as duty officer on a rota, including out-of-hours emergencies
What We're Looking For
- Experience in housing advice, homelessness prevention, or casework
- Knowledge of housing legislation (Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017)
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to manage complex caseloads and make statutory decisions
- Experience liaising with multi-agency partners to deliver housing solutions
- Organisational skills with attention to detail and accurate record-keeping
- Driving licence (essential)
