We are seeking an experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist to become the strategic and professional Lead for Older People Psychology across the Acute Care Pathway within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board:
Crisis Resolution & Home Treatment Team (CRHTT) for Older People
Older People Inpatient Services (including functional and dementia/organic inpatient care, therapeutic milieu, discharge planning)

As a senior clinician, with substantial post ‑ qualification experience, you will provide a high level of expertise across acute mental health services, overseeing and coordinating service development and the delivery of psychological assessment and interventions, in line with best practice and the evidence base.
You will be provided with strong professional support, working in collaboration with psychology service leads. This is a role where your role and influence will have a direct, meaningful impact on service delivery.
As the Consultant Clinical Psychologist Lead you will provide clinical, professional and strategic leadership in delivering a high quality psychology service for older people within the acute pathway, to ensure psychologically informed crisis responses for older people, supporting admission avoidance where appropriate and strengthening discharge planning and transitions.
Mental Health Services for Older People have a well-established psychology speciality clinical network, and the Consultant Clinical Psychologist will take a major role in the creation, development and containment of a multi ‑ professional therapeutic environment, embedding a psychologically informed and trauma ‑ informed approach across acute services. You will be based in an inpatient service and work alongside the senior leadership team(s) to deliver service developments, policy changes and pathway improvements.
As the Consultant Clinical Psychologist Lead, you will take on professional line management responsibility for an experienced and friendly team of psychological practitioners. This includes Highly Specialist Psychologists within the Liaison Psychiatry Older Adult Team, and the CRHTT. Within the Inpatient Psychology Team you will line manage Specialist Psychologists, a Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology, a Specialist Clinician and an Assistant Psychologist. The Lead will contribute to recruitment, appraisal, CPD planning and development of a sustainable acute pathway psychology workforce.
