Graham Lea Architecture is a growing architectural design practice based in Whitestake, near Leyland, with a varied portfolio of residential, commercial, education and care-sector projects.
We are looking for a Part-Time Architect to join our team. The role will primarily involve mentoring and supervising junior members of staff, while also taking responsibility for developing projects and working directly with clients.
The Role
The successful candidate will be an experienced, commercially minded architect who is confident working with clients and able to take a project from an initial brief through to a well-developed design concept.
The role will include:
- Mentoring and supervising junior architectural staff.
- Developing and interpreting client briefs.
- Preparing initial design concepts and developing proposals.
- Liaising directly with clients and understanding their requirements.
- Providing design input across a range of projects.
- Assisting with the management and progression of projects.
- Reviewing and overseeing the work of junior team members.
- Contributing to the continued development of the practice.
Experience & Skills
The successful candidate must have:
- At least 3 years' post-qualification experience.
- Good design and conceptual skills.
- The ability to develop a client brief and translate it into a clear design concept.
- Strong communication and client-facing skills.
- A commercial approach and an understanding of the importance of delivering projects to a client's requirements.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
- A good understanding of the UK planning and architectural process.
Experience across a range of sectors would be advantageous.

- Conversion of existing buildings to SEN schools.
- House extensions and alterations.

- New-build and extended commercial buildings.

- Other residential and commercial projects.
About the Practice
Graham Lea Architecture is a client- and commercially focused practice. We work closely with our clients to understand their requirements and develop practical, well-designed solutions that meet their brief and budget.
The current team consists of:
- Graham Lea – Owner / Architectural Designer.
- Senior Architectural Technician – 25 years' experience.
- Architectural Technologist – 5 years' experience, currently working towards chartership.
- Part 2 Architectural Assistant – working towards Part 3.
- Part 1 Architectural Assistant.
This is an opportunity to join an established but growing practice and play an important role in supporting and developing the next generation of architectural staff.
Working Arrangements
This is a part-time position, with the role envisaged as approximately one day per week in our Whitestake office, near Leyland, together with the potential for one additional day working remotely, if required.
