This apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with our Training Provider SIGTA, combining hands-on experience in our modern machine shop with structured off-the-job training. You will develop skills in CNC machining, milling, turning, and precision engineering to become a fully competent machinist.
Training course - ST1305 Machining Technician Apprenticeship Standard
In this wide-ranging apprenticeship, you will cover:
Key Responsibilities
- Operate CNC milling and turning machines under supervision
- Assist with setup, tooling, and material preparation
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Produce precision components to tight tolerances
- Use measuring equipment including micrometers and gauges
- Support inspection and quality control processes
- Learn CNC programming fundamentals (G-code)
- Maintain a safe and organised working environment
- Follow all health & safety procedures
- Complete apprenticeship coursework with SIGTA
Apprenticeship Training (SIGTA)
- Workplace learning combined with off-the-job training
- Day or block release at SIGTA training centre
- Qualification: Level 3 Engineering Technician / Machining Technician
- Training includes machining, materials, CNC programming, drawings, quality and safety

Apprenticeship duration - 45 months
Weekly working hours - 18 years and over: 7.30 – 4.30 Mon to Thurs – 7.30 to 12.30 Friday – 39 hours, 16-17 years: 8.00 – 4.30 Mon to Thurs – 8.00 to 12.00 Friday – 36 hours
Total working hours - 36 or 39 depending on age.
Pay Rate per annum
£17,316 per annum for 36 hour week for age 16-17.
£18,252 per annum for 39 hour week for age 18 and over.

Training to be provided:
On completion of the apprenticeship, you will have achieved the following qualification;
Machining Technician Apprenticeship Standard ST1305
The final apprenticeship completion certificate will be issued on achievement of the above qualification and successful completion of end point assessment.
