Overview
A specialist SEND provision in Leeds is recruiting a Therapeutic Learning Mentor to join their multidisciplinary team from September. The school supports pupils with a range of additional needs, including social, emotional and mental health needs, autism, attachment difficulties, trauma-related needs, emotional regulation challenges and complex learning needs.
Working closely with educational staff, pastoral teams and therapeutic professionals, the successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop emotional resilience and build the confidence required to achieve positive educational outcomes.
This is a full-time opportunity that has the potential to become a permanent role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide therapeutic and emotional support to pupils with a range of SEND and SEMH needs.
- Deliver targeted interventions and mentoring sessions under the guidance of educational and therapeutic professionals.
- Support pupils to develop emotional regulation, resilience and positive coping strategies.
- Build positive and trusting relationships that promote engagement, wellbeing and personal growth.
- Implement individual support plans, behaviour strategies and EHCP outcomes throughout the school day.
- Facilitate opportunities for personal development during lessons, interventions and social situations.
- Use restorative approaches, therapeutic techniques and positive reinforcement where appropriate.
- Support pupils to manage transitions, overcome barriers to learning and engage positively in education.
- Monitor, record and evaluate progress against individual targets and wellbeing outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents and carers to ensure consistency across settings.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND or additional needs.
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice, emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour support.
- Knowledge of attachment needs, emotional regulation strategies and therapeutic approaches desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Patient, empathetic and highly organised approach.
- Experience within education, youth work, care, mentoring or SEND settings beneficial.
- Relevant qualifications in Education, Psychology, Counselling, Youth Work, Health and Social Care or equivalent experience desirable.
Pay: £98.50-£125.00 per day
