We’re supporting a well‑established surfacing contractor who is looking for an experienced and organised contracts manager to oversee the day‑to‑day delivery of projects. This is a key operational role, managing teams, coordinating works and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
The Role
You’ll take ownership of surfacing contracts from award through to completion, working closely with operational leaders, supervisors and clients. The role suits someone confident managing people, coordinating resources and maintaining strong commercial and safety standards.
- Managing daily delivery of tarmac and surfacing works
- Planning labour, plant and materials to meet programme deadlines
- Acting as the main point of contact for clients and consultants
- Leading and supervising site teams, ensuring consistent delivery standards
- Ensuring works meet specifications, quality requirements and Highways/CDM standards
- Monitoring contract costs, valuations and variations
- Managing subcontractors and scheduling surfacing materials
- Maintaining accurate site records, diaries and compliance documentation
- Supporting smooth handover from estimating into live operations
- Identifying and resolving site issues promptly
- Keeping up to date with industry standards and legislation
Health & Safety
You’ll promote a strong safety culture, ensuring:
- Compliance with risk assessments, SSOW and PPE
- Accurate reporting of accidents, incidents and near misses
- Support for investigations where required
- High safety standards across all teams and sites
What We’re Looking For
- Full UK driving licence
- CSCS Managers Card
- SMSTS qualification
- Strong experience in surfacing, highways or a similar operational environment
- Proven people‑management experience
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Confident communicator with strong leadership ability
- Good IT skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Desirable:
- Knowledge of CDM, design management, programme management or risk management
- Experience with surfacing materials, testing and specifications
