Machine Operator
Advanced Mail Direct (ADM) is one of the UK's leading direct mail and fulfilment specialists, providing innovative print, mailing and fulfilment solutions to clients throughout the UK.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for a reliable, motivated and quality-focused Machine Operator to join our Production Team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience operating production machinery who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where quality, efficiency and teamwork are key.
The Role
As a Machine Operator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our specialist direct mail production machinery, ensuring customer work is completed accurately, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
You will be trained to operate a variety of equipment including:
- Polywrapping machines
- Paper wrapping machines
- Envelope enclosing machines
- Inkjetting equipment
- Labelling and addressing systems
- Conveyor systems
- Associated production and finishing equipment
You will work closely with Team Leaders, Shift Managers and Maintenance personnel to ensure production targets are achieved while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Working Hours
The role is based on a day shift pattern, working:
Monday to Friday / 7am to 5:45pm
Additional hours and overtime and weekend working may be available during busy periods to support customer requirements and production schedules.
Flexibility is essential as workloads can vary throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate and monitor production machinery.
- Ensure jobs are produced accurately and in line with customer specifications.
- Carry out machine changeovers and adjustments as required.
- Monitor product quality throughout production runs.
- Complete production paperwork and records accurately.
- Carry out routine machine checks and basic maintenance activities.
- Report machinery faults and production issues promptly.
- Work closely with the Maintenance Team to minimise downtime.
- Maintain a clean and organised working environment.
- Follow all company Health & Safety procedures and safe working practices.
- Support colleagues across the production department when required.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and quality.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience operating machinery within a manufacturing, production or industrial environment.
- Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to follow written instructions and production documentation.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for machine performance.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within a production environment.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience operating mailing, packaging, print or fulfilment machinery.
- Experience carrying out machine set-ups and changeovers.
- Knowledge of quality control procedures.
- Forklift Truck licence or willingness to undertake training.
- Experience working within a fast-paced production environment.
- Basic mechanical fault-finding skills.
