Job Title: Senior Biomedical Scientist and Quality Lead

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, covering shifts between 8.00am and 8.00pm Monday to Friday, plus one Saturday in four

You will lead quality activity within the discipline, support the day to day running of Biochemistry and help colleagues continually improve how we work.
A little about the role
You will join our Blood Sciences team in a senior role that brings together technical expertise, quality leadership and people management. Based primarily in Biochemistry, you will oversee daily activity within your area, support workload and equipment management, and make sure our standards remain consistently high. You will work closely with the Chief Biomedical Scientist, Laboratory Manager and Quality Manager, helping to maintain our Quality Management System and embedding a culture where colleagues feel supported to learn, improve and deliver their best work. You will also deputise for the Chief Biomedical Scientist or Laboratory Manager when required.
What you’ll be doing

Leading day to day activity within Biochemistry, coordinating workloads and supporting the delivery of agreed turnaround times and key performance indicators

Undertaking and supervising routine and specialist laboratory investigations, including technical validation and authorisation of results

Acting as Quality Lead for the discipline and supporting compliance with the Quality Management System and ISO 15189 accreditation standards

Managing the audit programme, completing audits and ensuring nonconformities, corrective actions and preventive actions are followed through

Supporting the investigation of incidents, complaints and service issues, including Datix and CAPA activity

Monitoring analytical performance, quality control, external quality assurance, key performance indicators and emerging trends

Maintaining controlled documents and using Q Pulse to support document, audit, CAPA and asset management

Leading, supervising and developing Biomedical Scientists, trainees, Medical Laboratory Assistants and students

Supporting equipment maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, stock control and the introduction of new techniques and technology
What we’re looking for

HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist, with substantial post registration laboratory experience

Strong specialist knowledge and practical experience within Biochemistry

Experience of quality management in an accredited laboratory, with a sound working knowledge of ISO 15189

Proven experience of audit, incident investigation, CAPA and controlled documentation

Confident leadership and supervisory skills, with experience supporting training and competency assessment

The ability to analyse quality data, identify trends and turn findings into practical improvements

Strong communication, organisation and decision-making skills, with the confidence to escalate concerns appropriately

Our Blood Sciences service provides an essential diagnostic function across The London Clinic. You will work alongside experienced Biomedical Scientists, Medical Laboratory Assistants, clinical colleagues and laboratory leaders in a team where accuracy, patient safety and continuous improvement are central to every decision.
The department uses specialist laboratory technologies, quality systems and informatics to support timely, reliable results. You will have the opportunity to influence working practices, develop colleagues and help shape improvements across the service.
