As part of the Communities service area, Libraries support the development of resilient communities, health and wellbeing, and the economy of Wiltshire through providing and promoting access to information, learning, skills development, heritage services and culture. The service operates through a network of 31 libraries and 3 mobile libraries. It also works closely with the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, helping people access knowledge, develop skills and engage with local history and culture.
As a Relief Driver Assistant, you’ll provide cover for staff absences including holiday and sickness. You'll be responsible for the safe collection and delivery of library materials between Library Support Services and libraries across Wiltshire. This is a varied, multi-drop role where you will ensure items are handled with care, transported securely and delivered reliably to support frontline services and customers.
You'll carry out vehicle safety checks, maintain delivery records, report defects and hazards, and help ensure compliance with road traffic and health and safety regulations. The role also includes stock handling, sorting and processing, assisting with crate and stock exchanges at libraries and community locations, covering loading bay duties when required, and providing relief cover for the Mobile Library Service.
If you enjoy driving, take pride in delivering excellent service and want to make a real difference to communities across Wiltshire, we look forward to hearing from you - apply today and help keep our libraries and cultural services moving.
As a casual worker, you will have no fixed hours and will work on an as-needed basis, depending on Wiltshire Council's requirements and your availability. You are not obligated to be available, and the council is not obliged to offer you work.
