Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Upholstery Sewing Machinist to join our production team.
The Role
As an Upholstery Sewing Machinist, you will be responsible for producing high-quality upholstery covers for our bespoke adjustable chairs and beds. Working from cutting patterns and production specifications, you will sew a wide variety of fabrics and leathers to the highest standard, ensuring every product meets our quality expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Sew upholstery covers for bespoke adjustable chairs and beds using industrial sewing machines.
- Assemble fabric and leather components accurately from cutting patterns.
- Produce high-quality seams, top stitching, piping, and other upholstery finishes.
- Ensure pattern matching and fabric direction are maintained throughout the sewing process.
- Work with a wide range of upholstery fabrics, vinyls, and leathers, understanding their different properties and handling requirements.
- Read and follow production specifications and work instructions.
- Carry out quality checks on completed work before passing items to the upholstery department.
- Maintain sewing machines and workstations in a clean and safe condition.
- Work efficiently to meet production targets without compromising quality.
About You
Previous experience as an upholstery sewing machinist is preferred. Experience within the furniture, automotive trim, marine upholstery, or soft furnishings industries would also be highly desirable.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience operating industrial sewing machines.
- A good understanding of upholstery construction techniques.
- Experience sewing a variety of upholstery fabrics and leather.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high standard of workmanship.
- The ability to produce accurate, consistent work.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- A positive attitude, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
Training can be provided for the right candidate who has relevant sewing machine experience and is keen to develop their upholstery skills.
