Front of House Waiting Staff – Full-Time & Part-Time
Char & Barrel Ltd – Hatfield and St Albans, Hertfordshire
Char & Barrel Ltd is looking for confident, friendly and professional waiting staff to join our growing hospitality team for our current and upcoming venues in Hatfield and St Albans, Hertfordshire.
We are looking for people who genuinely enjoy hospitality, work well as part of a team and want to develop their skills and progress within the industry. This role is about much more than taking orders; you will help create the warm, attentive and memorable experience we expect every guest to receive.
Pay and Contract type
Pay: £13.00–£14.50 per hour, depending on experience, plus a share of tips and service charge
Employment: Full-time and part-time positions available
Hours and availability
- Part-time applicants must be available for at least 20 hours per week. Full-time hours will be scheduled according to the rota.
- Regular weekend availability is essential
- Shifts will include a mixture of daytime, evening and weekend work, scheduled within the operating hours of the relevant venue. Current Hatfield trading hours are
- Sunday–Thursday: 12:00 pm–10:00 pm
- Friday–Saturday: 12:00 pm–11:00 pm
- St Albans operating hours will be confirmed before opening

What we are looking for
- At least one year’s experience in a UK hospitality environment, preferably within a restaurant and/or bar
- Applicants must have the right to work in the UK
- Confident spoken English, with the ability to explain menu items and communicate allergy information clearly
- A warm, approachable and outgoing personality
- Confidence working in a busy, fast-paced environment
- A passionate, respectful and professional attitude
- Strong organisation and time-management skills
- The ability to follow instructions and work systematically
- Confidence in learning and using restaurant technology, ordering and payment systems
- A genuine team player who is willing to support colleagues
- An interest in developing and progressing within the hospitality industry
Key responsibilities
- Welcome guests promptly and create an immediate, friendly connection
- Introduce the menus and explain food and drink options confidently
- Take food and drink orders accurately and efficiently
- Ask about allergies and dietary requirements, accurately recording and communicating them in accordance with restaurant procedures
- Coordinate closely with the kitchen and bar teams to ensure smooth, accurate and timely service
- Provide knowledgeable menu recommendations and answer guests’ questions
- Maintain attentive service throughout the meal, including check-backs and topping up water and drinks
- Respond positively and professionally to guest requests
- Help create memorable experiences by recognising and accommodating reasonable guest needs
- Keep tables, service stations and surrounding restaurant and bar areas clean, organised and presentation-ready
- Clear, clean and reset tables promptly after guests leave
- Process card and cash payments accurately, including giving the correct change
- Remain calm, respectful and professional when dealing with every guest
- Attend training sessions and continually develop your menu, service and systems knowledge
- Support colleagues and contribute to the success of the wider team
