About the Role
Knights Care is looking for a General Maintenance Operative to join our maintenance team, supporting our group of residential care homes for older people.
This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You will be primarily based at Cherry Holt Care Home in Retford but this role requires you to regularly travel between our homes carrying out general repairs, maintenance tasks and helping to ensure our buildings and grounds remain safe, clean and well-presented for our residents, visitors and staff.
You will work alongside an experienced and skilled maintenance team who will provide support and guidance where needed.
Main Duties
- Carry out general maintenance and repair work across all Knights Care homes.
- Complete basic painting and decorating tasks.
- Undertake minor plumbing, carpentry and general building repairs.
- Carry out routine health and safety checks.
- Assist with moving furniture and equipment when required.
- Ensure gardens, paths and external areas are kept safe and tidy.
- Respond to maintenance requests from Home Managers and staff.
- Report any defects or issues requiring specialist attention.
- Maintain a safe working environment at all times.
- Work in line with company policies and health and safety requirements.
Essential Requirements
- Must be aged 18 years or over.
- Full UK driving licence is essential.
- Willingness to travel between our homes in Scunthorpe, Grimsby, Leek, Gainsborough and Retford.
- Practical DIY and maintenance skills.
- Reliable, hardworking and able to work on your own initiative.
- Good communication skills and a positive attitude.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a maintenance, caretaker, facilities or handyman role.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, decorating, carpentry or building maintenance.
- Experience working within a care home, healthcare or residential setting.
