About the Role
We're looking for an Ecommerce Trading Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day online trading performance of three of our website brands, pavers.co.uk, jonesbootmaker.com and pavers.ie. You'll be the driving force behind sales, conversion and customer experience across all three sites - planning and executing the trading calendar, managing on-site merchandising, and working closely with marketing, buying, merchandising and creative teams to make sure the right product is in the right place at the right time, for the right price. This role will be based at our York Head Office.
This is a hands-on, commercially-focused role for someone who is comfortable moving between detailed, data-driven decisions (pricing, promotions, category performance) and bigger-picture planning (peak trading, campaign alignment, site experience).
This role is a 3 month fixed term contract.
Key Responsibilities
Site Trading & Commercial Performance
-
Own the day-to-day trading of pavers.co.uk, jonesbootmaker.com and pavers.ie, taking accountability for sales, conversion rate, average order value and revenue against targets.
-
Execute the online trading calendar for all three sites, coordinating key dates, promotions, sales events and campaign activity.
-
Monitor site and category performance daily, identifying opportunities and risks, and take fast, decisive action to correct underperformance.
-
Plan and lead peak trading periods (e.g. Black Friday, Christmas, Sale) across all three brands, ensuring stock, site and promotional plans are aligned.
-
Set and manage pricing and promotional mechanics in line with commercial strategy and margin targets.
-
Balance priorities across all three sites, tailoring trading, pricing and promotional plans to each brand and market, including the Republic of Ireland via pavers.ie, while keeping activity joined up across the group.
Onsite Merchandising & Customer Experience
-
Manage onsite merchandising, product placement, category and navigation structures to maximise visibility of key lines, bestsellers and promotional stock.
-
Own homepage, landing page and campaign page planning, briefing content and creative teams on imagery, copy and layout requirements.
-
Review site search and navigation performance, working with UX/development teams to improve findability and reduce friction in the customer journey.
-
Ensure product content (imagery, copy, pricing, availability) is accurate and up to date across all three sites.
Analysis & Reporting
-
Track and report on key trading KPIs (traffic, conversion, AOV, sell-through, bounce rate) across all three sites, presenting insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
-
Carry out regular competitor and market analysis to inform trading and merchandising decisions.
-
Use A/B testing and CRO tools to test and validate changes to site layout, merchandising and promotions.
-
Work with the buying and merchandising teams to align stock availability and inventory decisions with online trading priorities, flagging bestsellers and slow-moving lines.
Cross-Team Collaboration
-
Partner with the marketing team (paid media, CRM, SEO, social) to ensure campaigns are aligned with the trading calendar and stock priorities.
-
Brief and work closely with creative/content teams to deliver on-brand assets that support trading activity.
-
Liaise with the wider digital/development team on site functionality, technical issues and platform improvements that affect trading.
-
Represent ecommerce trading in cross-functional planning meetings, ensuring pavers.co.uk, jonesbootmaker.com and pavers.ie are all appropriately prioritised.
What We're Looking For
-
Proven experience in an ecommerce trading, merchandising or digital trading role, ideally within fashion, footwear or a similar retail category.
-
Strong commercial acumen with a track record of using data to drive sales and conversion improvements.
-
Confident working with ecommerce platforms, site analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics) and onsite merchandising/search tools.
-
Experience managing trading across multiple brands or websites is an advantage.
-
Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across marketing, buying, merchandising, creative and development teams.
-
Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities during fast-paced peak trading periods.
-
Strong analytical skills and comfort working with reporting tools/spreadsheets to interpret performance data.
The Pavers story began in York in 1971 when Catherine Paver took out a £200 bank loan (for a sofa she told them) to fund her new business. She had big dreams of changing the world of footwear and a passion to provide comfortable and stylish shoes for all.
Starting small, she sold shoes at village halls and homeware parties before opening the first Pavers shop in Scarborough in 1981, when Catherine’s three sons joined the business. One of her sons, Stuart, ran the business as Managing Director for over 40 years, joined by his son Jason in 2016. As of September 2023, Jason Paver is now the Managing Director of Pavers Ltd, with Stuart Paver moving to Chairman, taking the company into the 3rd generation of family run leadership.
From these modest beginnings, Pavers Shoes has grown to be a UK leader in today’s footwear industry, with over 180 stores nationwide encompassing our more recently acquired brands including Jones Bootmaker, Herring Shoes, Padders & Van Dal.
We remain acquisitive, highly profitable, and are an ever-growing, independent family-run business, employing over 1,900 people.
We were delighted to receive recognition as a 3* Employer with ‘World Class’ levels of workplace engagement and the ‘2nd Best Retailer to Work For’ by Best Companies in November 2024. At Pavers, we attribute the talents, passion, and dedication of our colleagues as the reasons for our success.
