We have a permanent vacancy for a Yard Worker/Forklift Driver/Transit Driver at our Caerphilly Branch.

What is a builders’ merchant?
A builders’ merchant is a company which supplies materials to the construction sector.
Up to 85% of the built environment you see around you is supplied by Britain’s builders’ merchants. Merchants and the supply chain are crucial to the construction industry which contributes over £40 billion to the UK economy each year. A career in this essential commercial sector can be challenging, varied and rewarding.
Hours:
40 hours per week to be worked between 7:30am - 16:30pm, with 1 in 3 Saturday mornings (08:00am - 12:00pm).
Pay:
Negotiable according to experience.

Duties:
- Picking orders, loading and unloading and related paperwork
- General warehouse duties and stock management
- Customer service - dealing with customers in person
- Driving forklift at the branch
- Making local deliveries on the transit
Essential Skills:
- Clean driving licence (Class B) and at least 2 years driving experience
- A good understanding of metric and imperial measurements and basic mental arithmetic
- Good paperwork skills
- Confident communicator
- Proven teamwork skills
- Naturally tidy and organised
- Willingness to engage with customers and provide good customer service
- Ability to follow instructions and work unsupervised once trained
- Reliable, industrious, adaptable and quick to grasp new concepts
- Manual handling up to 25kg
Desirable:
- Good knowledge of building materials and their usage
- An interest in sales and in the construction industry
- Counterbalance forklift license
The role offers scope to develop selling skills, customer service and an understanding of materials, stock control, orders and deliveries.
