Key Responsibilities:
This role will act as the nominated Transport Manager, O Licence holder.
- Oversee the entire fleet (4x4s, 3.5-tonne trucks, HGVs), guaranteeing their roadworthiness and safety through proper maintenance and adherence to service schedules.
- Champion a culture of compliance by conducting regular audits, enforcing company policies, and verifying driver's hours regulations weekly. Proficiency in transport management software is a plus.
- Implement and enforce rigorous Gate Check procedures.
- Manage Workshop Team, assigning maintenance jobs and workload to Mechanics
- Ensure adherence to accident and incident reporting protocols, including proper documentation and insurance referral.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with third-party subcontractors, agency staff, and clients.
- Develop and implement transportation strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure smooth operations and achieve organisational objectives.
- Support the transport logistics team in planning and coordinating the daily schedules of drivers and vehicles to optimise efficiency and meet delivery deadlines.
- Provide reporting to monitor driver performance, including hours worked and adherence to company policies, safety regulations, and legal requirements. Address any infringements and liaise with line managers and HR regarding disciplinary matters.
- Ensure compliance with all transportation laws and regulations, including driver service hours, vehicle maintenance, and licensing.
- Minimise transportation costs by strategically sourcing parts, negotiating contracts with vendors, and leveraging in-house fitters for effective vehicle maintenance.
- Lead by example, ensuring drivers complete daily vehicle checks. Verify completion and identify and fix any damage, parts issues, or uncleanliness.
- Manage the environmental impact of the transport operation by promoting fuel efficiency and sustainable practices.
- Maintain and develop a positive health and safety culture throughout the business.
- Supporting the induction of new drivers, developing training plans, and overseeing driver development.
- Maintaining our O Licence and driver record documentation.
- Arrange vehicles for purchase, sale, or disposal to ensure the fleet is operational at all times.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in transport management software (e.g., tracking & monitoring software, tacho management software and workshop software)
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance practices and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Understanding of telematics systems for tracking vehicles and driver behaviour.
Desired Skills:
- CPC holder.
- Experience with budgeting and cost control in a transport environment.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- A keen eye for detail and a commitment to safety.
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
- A valid driving license
- Strong leadership & influencing skills to motivate and mentor drivers and other team members
- Project management skills are needed to oversee and implement changes within the business.
