Fry Site Services is a fast-growing groundworks and construction business delivering high-quality projects across education, commercial, residential and private client sectors. As part of the wider Fry Group (RecMat, Fry MEP and Fry MM), we are expanding our in-house delivery team and seeking experienced, highly capable Groundworks Operatives to join our organisation.
About the Role
This role is for proven, skilled groundworkers who can operate at a high standard, work under pressure, and contribute to the successful delivery of complex groundworks and construction projects. You will be part of a professional, well-equipped team working with the latest machinery, tools, vans and technology. You will be expected to take ownership of your work, support the site team, and uphold the exceptional standards our clients expect.
Key Responsibilities
· Carry out all aspects of groundworks including excavation, drainage, foundations, concrete works, rebar, block & brickwork, block & beam, reinstatement and surfacing.
· Operate excavators and other site machinery to a high standard.
· Read and interpret drawings, rebar schedules, setting-out plans and technical data with confidence.
· Assist with setting out and ensure works are completed accurately and safely.
· Work to programme targets and maintain productivity under pressure.
· Maintain excellent site etiquette and professionalism at all times.
· Build strong working relationships with client-side supervisors, project managers and the Fry team.
· Follow strict Health & Safety procedures and contribute to a safe working environment.
· Support the delivery of high-quality finishes across all groundworks and surfacing operations.
· Represent Fry Site Services with pride, professionalism and a positive attitude.
What We’re Looking For
· A minimum of 10 years’ hands-on groundworks experience.
· Strong practical skills across all groundwork’s disciplines.
· Ability to read drawings and technical information with ease.
· High competence in excavator operation and other plant.
· Relevant machine tickets and groundworks-related certifications.
· Strong awareness of site safety, sequencing and best practice.
· A methodical, forward-thinking approach — planning ahead, not just reacting day-to-day.
· A calm, reliable attitude under pressure.
· Excellent communication and the ability to work well within a team.
· Professional presentation and behaviour on client sites.
· Strong problem-solving skills and a “can-do” mindset.
· Ability to provide references demonstrating your experience and capability.

· CSCS Gold Card
· Enhanced DBS Check
· NRSWA Street Works Certification
· Temporary Works Awareness
· First Aid at Work / Emergency First Aid
· BPSS – Baseline Personnel Security Standard
(Mandatory for working on MOD sites)
· Plant & Machinery Tickets
· CPCS or NPORS (CSCS‑linked) – Excavator
· CPCS or NPORS (CSCS‑linked) – Dumper
· CPCS or NPORS (CSCS‑linked) – Telehandler
