Working Pattern: Approximately 2 days per week (initially)
Consultancy Fee: £100–£150 per day, depending on experience.
About Us
Knights & Shah Solicitors is a growing litigation practice based in Woking, Surrey. We specialise in landlord and tenant disputes, housing litigation, possession proceedings, housing disrepair, debt recovery and general civil litigation.
Due to the continued growth of the firm, we are seeking an ambitious and motivated Litigation Solicitor to join our expanding team on a self-employed consultant basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor looking to become an integral part of a growing practice, with genuine long-term career prospects. The successful candidate will initially work approximately two days per week, with the opportunity to increase working days as the firm's litigation department continues to expand.
There is also a genuine opportunity to progress into the position of Head of Litigation, subject to performance during the first six months and the continued growth of the department. The consultancy fee will also be reviewed following this period.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing your own litigation caseload from initial instruction through to conclusion while working closely with the Principal Solicitor.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing landlord and tenant disputes.
- Conducting housing litigation matters.
- Preparing and issuing Section 8 and Section 21 possession proceedings.
- Managing housing disrepair claims.
- Conducting general civil litigation matters.
- Debt recovery and enforcement of judgments.
- Preparing and issuing applications to set aside judgments.
- Drafting witness statements, pleadings, court applications and legal correspondence.
- Preparing hearing bundles and trial bundles.
- Instructing and liaising with Counsel.
- Advising clients throughout their matters.
- Attending court hearings where required.
- Managing cases from initial instruction through to conclusion.
- Ensuring compliance with court deadlines and the Civil Procedure Rules.
- Delivering an exceptional standard of client care.
The Ideal Candidate
Applicants should:
- Be a qualified Solicitor in England and Wales.
- Have experience managing their own litigation caseload.
- Have experience in landlord and tenant litigation, housing litigation and general civil litigation.
- Be confident drafting court documents, witness statements and legal correspondence.
- Have experience preparing trial bundles and instructing Counsel.
- Be organised, proactive and able to work independently.
- Possess excellent communication and client care skills.
- Have the right to work in the United Kingdom.
