£38,000 – £45,000 + company van, fuel card and paid overtime. We're looking for a time-served joiner - someone whose second fix doesn't need snagging and who can hang a fire door properly. If carpentry is one of six things you do a bit of, this isn't the role. If it's your trade, read on.
About us
Essential Repairs is a growing, projects-based maintenance business working across residential and commercial property in London. Small enough that you'll know everyone, big enough that the work is steady.
What makes this different
- Real variety. Reactive repairs one week, a kitchen or a small fit-out the next.
- We buy the consumables. Blades, fixings, adhesives, abrasives. You're not funding jobs out of your own pocket.
What you'll be doing
- Hanging doors, including fire doors, and fitting full ironmongery
- Locks, closers, hinges, easing and adjusting
- Second fix - skirting, architrave, window boards, dado, boxing in, shelving
- First fix - studwork and partitions, door linings, noggins, floor and joist repairs
- Kitchens, worktops, wardrobes and fitted furniture - installation and repair
- Sash and casement window repairs
- Staircases, floorboards, decking, gates and fencing
- Surveying and measuring on site, working from drawings or your own take-off
- Making good on completion and same-day job reporting
What you'll need
- Time-served or qualified joiner - NVQ Level 2/3 Carpentry & Joinery, City & Guilds, or completed apprenticeship
- 5+ years on the tools since qualifying, in maintenance, refurbishment or fit-out
- Strong first and second fix across both repairs and installation
- Proven experience hanging doors, including fire doors, and fitting full ironmongery
- Kitchen and fitted unit installation experience
- A finish that doesn't need a return visit
- Comfortable working in occupied homes and commercial premises
- Able to survey, measure and price up your own materials from site
- Full UK driving licence
- Your own hand and power tools
Nice to have (we'll pay to get you the rest)
- Fire door installation or inspection certification - FDIS, BM TRADA Q-Mark or equivalent
- CSCS card (Gold / Skilled Worker)
- Bench joinery or bespoke workshop experience
- Sash window restoration and period property work
- Structural timber or roofing carpentry
- Lock changes and basic locksmithing
- Asbestos awareness, IPAF / PASMA, first aid, manual handling
What we offer
- £38,000 – £45,000 depending on experience
- Company van and fuel card, home to home
- Paid overtime and weekend work - available, not compulsory
- 28 days holiday including bank holidays
- Company pension and sick pay
- Consumables, PPE and power tool replacement covered
- We'll fund fire door certification and any tickets that make you better at the job
