Department: Family Law – Private Client
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Family Law Paralegal to join our busy and growing Family Department.
This is an excellent opportunity for a paralegal who has experience of, or a strong interest in, private family law and who is looking to develop their career within a supportive and established law firm.
The Role
Working alongside experienced family solicitors, you will assist with a varied caseload of private family law matters, including:
· Divorce and dissolution proceedings;
· Financial remedy proceedings and financial settlements;
· Private children matters, including Child Arrangements Orders;
· Applications concerning parental responsibility and specific issue/prohibited steps orders;
· Cohabitation and separation matters;
· Pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements;
· Preparing court applications, statements, bundles and other legal documents;
· Liaising with clients, counsel, courts and other solicitors;
· Attending client meetings and taking detailed attendance notes;
· Assisting with the preparation of cases for hearings and conferences with counsel;
· Managing correspondence and maintaining accurate and up-to-date files; and
· Providing general support to solicitors within the Family Department.
· Able to use the court portal
Depending upon experience, there may be an opportunity to manage appropriate matters under supervision and develop your own caseload.
The Candidate
The successful candidate will ideally:
· Have previous experience working within a family law department,;
· Have a good understanding of family law procedures and court processes;
· Be confident dealing directly with clients, including clients experiencing difficult and sensitive circumstances;
· Have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
· Be well organised and able to manage competing deadlines;
· Demonstrate excellent attention to detail;
· Be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team;
· Have good IT and case management skills; and
· Have a genuine interest in developing a career in family law.
A law degree, LPC, SQE studies or equivalent legal qualification would be advantageous but is not essential where the candidate can demonstrate suitable practical experience.
