Glasshouse College reflects the history of the Stourbridge glassmaking district. The local traditions of glassblowing, etching and engraving provide a rich stimulus for the college’s signature craft. Established in 1984, Ruskin Mill Trust is an educational charity that operates in England, Scotland and Wales. We offer exciting outdoor learning environments, utilising practical land and craft activities to support the development of work and life skills in young people with autistic spectrum conditions and other learning differences. Our research-led method, Practical Skills Therapeutic Education, is inspired by the work of Rudolf Steiner, John Ruskin and William Morris. Working with hand, head, heart and place, Ruskin Mill Trust helps individuals to re-imagine their potential.
The role is based at Glasshouse College, Stourbridge which is an independent specialist college educating young people (16-25) with complex behaviour and learning difficulties including autistic spectrum conditions.
An exciting opportunity has become available to join Glasshouse College, as part of the committed team focusing on the holistic needs of the students. This post is a opportunity to lead and support a team providing 52-week support to the College Students in order to help them feel safe, respected, confident and capable of achieving their best in their college sessions, social enterprise opportunities and in their residential provision. Ruskin Mill has a 24-hour curriculum and a unique method, Practical Skills Therapeutic Education, in order to support the re-imagination of the student’s potential and shape their own future.
The students benefit from an extensive range of nutritional, therapeutic and medical support at each college that is reflected in the college sessions and in the residential provision. This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting a career across care and education.
In order to be successful in this role you will:
- Have experience of leading and managing a team within the care sector
- Ensure the effective operation of the residential provision
- Oversee and supervise the residential staff within one or more residential houses, ensuring they are appropriately trained and supported
- Have experience of support young people, have excellent observational skills, and the ability to problem solve and think creatively to enable our young people to reimagine their potential
- Be able to liaise with parents and other agencies in relation to student issues
- Ensure that all activities within the households are in reference to CQC requirements
- demonstrate emotional intelligence and resilience with the ability to react calmly in stressful situations
- Be able to work flexible hours as this role includes working primarily weekends, evenings, sleep-over shifts and duty on a rota basis
- Have a NVQ 4/ 5 in Health and Social Work or willing to work towards as Ruskin Mill Trust will financially support you to gain this qualification
