Optical Assistant & Marketing Assistant
Brittain Opticians | Harborne, Birmingham
About Us
Brittain Opticians is an independent practice in Harborne, led by optometrist Matt Rose. We take a personal, unhurried approach to eye care — and we're growing our presence beyond the practice too, through our quarterly newsletter, The Brittain Bulletin, and a growing library of social media content.
The Role
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys looking after customers, but who also wants a hand in shaping how we tell our story. This is a hybrid role: part of your week on the shop floor, part of it helping plan and create our marketing content.
Optical Assistant Responsibilities
- Welcoming customers and providing a warm, attentive experience in person and on the phone
- Supporting frame selection, fittings, adjustments and minor repairs
- Booking and managing eye test appointments
- Processing orders, payments and stock
- Keeping the practice looking its best
Full training given — no optical experience necessary.
Marketing Assistant Responsibilities
- Creating photo and video content for our social channels
- Helping build our growing video presence — we're working towards around four posts a month, taking a gradual, confidence-first approach rather than expecting polish from day one
- Contributing to The Brittain Bulletin, our quarterly newsletter
- Coming up with campaign and promotion ideas that fit our relaxed, not-pushy tone
- Capturing customer stories, behind-the-scenes moments and eye health tips
- Keeping an eye on what's landing well and suggesting what to try next
## What We're Looking For
- A genuine people person who enjoys customer service
- An interest in (or experience with) content creation, social media or marketing
- Comfortable being creative, and happy to appear on camera occasionally (or keen to get there)
- Organised enough to juggle shop floor duties with content deadlines
- A team player who pitches in with ideas, not just waits to be told what to do
No formal qualifications required. Retail experience, or a flair for photography, video or writing, is a bonus.
## What We Offer
- Full training on the optical side of the role
- Genuine creative input — you'll help shape our marketing, not just execute it
- A friendly, independent practice rather than a corporate chain
- Staff discount on eyewear
- Salary — competitive, dependent on experience
- Hours — full-time/part-time, including some Saturdays
Pay: £25,420.00-£36,343.83 per year
Benefits:
- Free parking
- On-site parking
Work Location: In person
