We’re on the lookout for kind, dedicated Senior Care Support Workers to join our team. If you’re someone who genuinely wants to make a difference and support people with visual impairment and complex needs to live well, we’d love to hear from you.
As a Senior Care Support Worker, you’ll play a central role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care to individuals with visual impairments, complex needs, and additional disabilities. You will support people to achieve greater independence, enhance their wellbeing, and participate fully in meaningful daily activities while ensuring their safety, dignity, and individual choices remain at the heart of everything you do.
Working closely with Hub Leaders, colleagues, families, carers, and external professionals, you will help maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment that reflects Focus Birmingham's values and commitment to excellence.
What you’ll be doing:
Supporting the Hub
-
Assist Hub Leaders in supervising care staff, bank staff, agency workers, and volunteers.

Allocate workloads and coordinate staffing to meet service needs.

Support assessments for new and existing placements.

Promote compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, infection prevention, and organisational policies.

Assist with audits, quality monitoring, and continuous service improvement.

Help resolve day-to-day operational issues and support colleagues in finding practical solutions.
Delivering Person-Centred Care

Provide compassionate, person-centred support that promotes dignity, choice, independence, and inclusion.

Support individuals with personal care, continence care, mobility, nutrition, medication, behaviour support, and emotional wellbeing.

Deliver care in accordance with individual care plans and risk assessments.
-
Encourage participation in meaningful activities, education, employment, and community engagement.
-
Use communication methods tailored to individual needs, including Makaton, PECS, objects of reference, visual supports, or other total communication approaches where appropriate.

Advocate for individuals to ensure their voices are heard and respected.

Safely support individuals during transport and while accessing the community.
Delivering Safe and High-Quality Care

Complete accurate, timely, and professional care documentation.

Report concerns, incidents, safeguarding issues, and changes in health promptly.

Administer medication safely following organisational procedures and training.

Participate in regular supervision, mandatory training, and professional development.

Support the induction and mentoring of new employees.

Attend team meetings and actively contribute ideas to improve service quality.

Person Specification
Essential
-
Previous experience supporting adults with care and support needs.
-
Compassionate, caring, and committed to delivering person-centred care.
-
Understanding of safeguarding, dignity, equality, and inclusion.
-
Experience supporting individuals with personal care, mobility, and manual handling.
-
Good written and verbal communication skills.
-
Ability to maintain accurate electronic care records.
-
Able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
-
Positive, flexible, and reliable approach to work.
-
Willingness to undertake ongoing training and development.
Desirable
-
Experience supporting people with visual impairments and complex needs.
-
Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or other communication systems.
-
Medication administration training.
-
Experience supervising or mentoring staff.
-
Basic IT skills for electronic care planning systems.
-
Full UK driving licence and willingness to drive service vehicles.
