Duties
- Plan and implement a diverse range of activities tailored to residents’ interests, abilities, and care needs, including dementia and Alzheimer’s care programs
- Foster a welcoming atmosphere by encouraging participation and social interaction among residents
- Collaborate with care staff to assess individual resident preferences and develop personalized activity plans
- Lead group exercises, arts and crafts, music sessions, games, and outings that stimulate cognitive and physical engagement
- Monitor residents during activities to ensure safety and provide support as needed
- Maintain accurate records of activities conducted, resident participation, and feedback for continuous improvement
- Communicate regularly with families and team members about upcoming events and resident progress
- Perform other duties as reasonably required to support the effective operation of the service. This may include assisting with workplace social and fundraising events, accompanying residents to medical appointments when care staff are unavailable, and providing emergency support to care staff. These responsibilities may occasionally be undertaken outside normal working hours
Experience
- Prior experience working in assisted living facilities or nursing homes is highly preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of senior care practices, including dementia and Alzheimer’s care techniques
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with residents, families, and team members
- Experience in caregiving or activity planning within a care home setting is advantageous
- Ability to adapt activities to meet diverse needs of seniors with varying levels of mobility and cognitive function
- Familiarity with safety protocols related to senior activities and dementia-friendly environments
