Job Type: Agency Temporary to Permanent (Permanent opportunity after 12 weeks)
Pay Rate: £24.35 – £27.47 per hour (UPDATED PEAK TIMES RATES)
Are you an experienced Class 1 (C+E) driver looking for regular depot-to-depot work with excellent rates of pay and the opportunity to secure a permanent position?
We are recruiting Class 1 Drivers to work on behalf of Royal Mail from their Gatwick Distribution Centre. This is an agency temporary-to-permanent opportunity, with successful drivers being considered for a permanent contract after 12 weeks.
This role offers straightforward trunking work with no multi-drop deliveries, allowing drivers to focus on safe and efficient transportation between Royal Mail sites and distribution centre.
The Role
As a Class 1 Driver, you will be responsible for depot-to-depot trunking operations across Royal Mail's nationwide network.
Your duties will include:
- Transporting mail and parcels between Royal Mail distribution centre and hubs
- Completing scheduled trunk runs to strict delivery times
- Trailer swaps and bay-to-bay movements where required
- Conducting vehicle safety checks before and after each shift
- Ensuring all loads remain secure throughout transit
- Accurately completing vehicle and transport documentation
- Adhering to all driver hours, working time, and road transport regulations
This is primarily a trunking role with minimal manual handling and no residential or multi-drop deliveries.
Requirements
To be considered, you must have:
- A valid UK Class 1 (C+E) Licence
- 2 Year experience on driving Class 1
- Valid Driver CPC qualification
- Digital Tachograph Card
- No more than 6 penalty points
- No DD, DR, IN, or TT99 endorsements
- A professional and safety-conscious approach
- Good time management and communication skills
- Flexibility to workdays, nights, weekends, and bank holidays where required
