STEMRAN Limited is an accredited education and training provider delivering regulated qualifications, including Open Awards qualifications. We are based in Scotland and are currently expanding our Alternative Education Provision in Suffolk, including Ipswich and Lowestoft.
We are seeking an experienced and appropriately qualified Self-Employed Beauty Tutor/Lecturer/Assessor to deliver the beauty element of an accredited programme for a 17-year-old learner.
The successful applicant will deliver practical and theory-based beauty training, assess the learner's work against specified learning outcomes, and work closely with STEMRAN Limited to ensure that appropriate evidence is produced for the learner's qualification.
Programme to Be Delivered
The successful tutor will primarily deliver training and assessment in the following areas:
- Nail Art Application
- Make-up / Evening Make-up
- Skincare
The Nail Art Application unit will contribute towards the learner's Open Awards Level 1 Award in Skills for Further Learning and Employment, following a Beauty pathway.
STEMRAN Limited will separately deliver:
- Developing Interpersonal Skills – 3 credits
- Job Seeking Skills – 3 credits
The Beauty Tutor/Assessor will be responsible for supporting delivery and assessment of:
- Nail Art Application – 3 credits
- Additional Make-up training - 3 units
- Additional Skincare training - 3 units
Full Open Awards unit specifications and required learning outcomes will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
The Beauty Tutor/Lecturer/Assessor will be expected to:
- Deliver engaging, practical and learner-centred beauty training to a 17-year-old learner.
- Deliver approximately one full day of beauty provision per week over an agreed number of weeks.
- Teach practical skills in nail art application, make-up and skincare in accordance with the relevant programme specifications.
- Plan sessions to ensure all required learning outcomes are appropriately covered.
- Support the learner to complete both practical activities and written evidence.
- Observe and assess the learner's practical skills against the specified learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
- Confirm when the learner has demonstrated the required knowledge, understanding and practical competence.
- Provide clear, constructive and encouraging feedback to support the learner's development.
- Complete and maintain accurate assessment and learner-progress documentation.
- Provide STEMRAN Limited with appropriate assessment evidence for internal quality assurance and certification purposes.
- Bring the necessary professional beauty equipment, tools, products and resources required for practical delivery, unless otherwise agreed.
- Maintain appropriate hygiene, infection-control and health and safety standards throughout all practical sessions.
- Work collaboratively with STEMRAN staff to ensure the learner receives a supportive and positive educational experience.
- Follow STEMRAN Limited's safeguarding, health and safety, equality, confidentiality and Alternative Provision procedures.
A STEMRAN staff member will remain on site throughout the sessions to supervise and support the learner and may also act as a model for practical activities where appropriate.
Essential Requirements
Applicants should have:
- A recognised professional qualification in Beauty Therapy, Nail Technology, Make-up, Skincare or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrable professional experience within the beauty industry.
- Experience delivering practical beauty training.
- The knowledge and competence required to deliver Nail Art Application, Make-up and Skincare.
- An appropriate teaching/training qualification or relevant teaching experience.
- An appropriate assessor qualification or demonstrable occupational competence and assessment experience suitable for assessing vocational practical work.
- The ability to assess practical and written evidence accurately against specified learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work effectively with young people and adapt teaching to individual learning needs.
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
- A strong understanding of professional hygiene, health and safety and safe working practices within beauty provision.
- The ability and willingness to travel to the agreed delivery venue in the Woodbridge/Ipswich area.
Safeguarding Requirements
As this role involves working with a 17-year-old learner, the successful applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability to work with children and young people.
An appropriate Enhanced DBS check, including the relevant barred-list check where legally applicable to the role, will be required or arranged as part of STEMRAN Limited's safer recruitment and safeguarding procedures.
Applicants must also be willing to comply with STEMRAN Limited's safeguarding and child-protection requirements.
Desirable Requirements
It would be advantageous for applicants to have:
- Previous experience working with learners aged 16–18.
- Experience within Alternative Provision, SEND, further education or vocational training.
- Previous experience delivering or assessing regulated qualifications.
- Experience working with Open Awards or similar awarding organisations.
- Experience supporting learners who require personalised or one-to-one provision.
- Current safeguarding/child-protection training.
- Current First Aid training.
Delivery Arrangements
The programme is expected to operate over two full days of education per week, totalling approximately 15 hours:
- Day 1 – STEMRAN: Developing Interpersonal Skills and Job Seeking Skills.
- Day 2 – Beauty Tutor: Nail Art Application, Make-up and Skincare.
Beauty sessions are expected to take place at Woodbridge Library or another suitable STEMRAN delivery venue within the Suffolk area, subject to final venue arrangements.
The exact number of sessions will be agreed with the successful tutor based on the time reasonably required to deliver the courses and enable the learner to meet all specified learning outcomes.
Self-Employed Arrangement
This is a self-employed/sessional opportunity rather than a salaried employment position.
Applicants should be able to:
- Provide their proposed daily/session rate or quotation.
- Confirm their availability and earliest possible start date.
- Confirm how many full-day sessions they recommend for each course.
- Provide appropriate invoices for services delivered.
- Maintain appropriate professional insurance relevant to the services provided.
- Supply their own professional beauty equipment and resources, where agreed.
