Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and organised Activities Co-ordinator to join our team in providing engaging and meaningful activities for residents in a care home setting. This role is required to cover a period of maternity leave. The ideal candidate will have experience of working with older people, including people living with Dementia, and possess excellent communication skills. This role involves planning, implementing, and evaluating a variety of recreational activities aimed at enhancing residents' quality of life and promoting social interaction. The Activities Co-ordinator will work closely with care staff to ensure personalised activity programmes that meet individual needs and preferences.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a diverse programme of activities tailored to residents’ interests, abilities, and care requirements.
- Organise group activities such as arts and crafts, music sessions, games, and outings that promote social engagement.
- Provide individualised activity plans for residents with specialised needs, including dementia.
- Foster a warm, inclusive environment that encourages participation from all residents.
- Collaborate with care staff to monitor residents’ responses to activities and adapt programmes accordingly.
- Maintain accurate records of activities undertaken and residents’ participation levels.
- Encourage family involvement in activity planning when appropriate.
- Ensure all activities comply with health and safety regulations and organisational policies.
Skills
- Experience working in supported living and/or residential/nursing home environments
- Knowledge of dementia is highly desirable.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan engaging programmes effectively.
- Excellent communication skills to interact confidently with residents, staff, and families.
- Empathy and patience when working with elderly residents who may have complex needs.
- Creative thinking to develop innovative activities that stimulate mental and physical well-being.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
