Job Summary:
The successful candidate will lead a team of Building Control professionals while acting as the technical lead for complex and high-risk building projects. The role requires a Class 3 Registered Building Inspector with strong leadership capability and extensive knowledge of building regulations and building safety legislation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and supervise a team of Building Inspectors, Specialist Building Inspectors, and Trainee Building Inspectors.
- Deputise for the Head of Building Control when required.
- Assess complex and high-risk building projects, including Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs).
- Review plans, conduct site inspections, and make compliance decisions under the Building Act 1984 and Building Regulations 2010.
- Lead the service's relationship with the Building Safety Regulator and associated regional hubs.
- Oversee enforcement activities, dangerous structures, demolition notices, and regulatory compliance.
- Mentor and develop junior inspectors.
- Support quality management systems and service performance improvement initiatives.
Essential Requirements:
- Class 3 Registered Building Inspector qualification.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Chartered membership of a professional body such as:
- Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
- Chartered Association of Building Engineers
- Chartered Institute of Building
- Detailed knowledge of:
- Building Act 1984
- Building Safety Act 2022
- Building Regulations 2010
- Experience managing teams, mentoring staff, or leading major Building Control projects.
- Strong stakeholder management and customer-facing experience.
