Overview:
Job Purpose
The Transport Manager (Plant) is responsible for the effective management, coordination and compliance of all company plant, transport vehicles and related logistics operations. The role ensures that plant and equipment are delivered safely, efficiently and cost-effectively to sites, whilst maintaining full legal compliance with transport and operator licence regulations.
Key Responsibilities: Plant & Fleet Management
- Maintain accurate plant records, including inspections, servicing and certification.
- Manage plant hire requirements (external suppliers) where necessary.
Transport Compliance
- Act as Transport Manager in accordance with the company’s Operator’s Licence obligations.
- Ensure full compliance with DVSA regulations, tachograph legislation and Working Time Directive requirements.
- Monitor driver hours, infringements and vehicle maintenance schedules.
- Maintain vehicle records including MOTs, servicing, inspections and defect reporting systems.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies as required.
Maintenance & Safety
- Implement and manage a preventative maintenance programme for plant and vehicles.
- Ensure all plant is maintained in accordance with manufacturer and statutory requirements.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture within transport and yard operations.
- Ensure all operators hold relevant CPCS/NPORS and driver qualifications.
Yard & Logistics Management
- Oversee yard operations, ensuring safe storage and organisation of plant and materials.
- Manage yard staff and drivers, including performance and training.
- Plan efficient delivery routes to reduce costs and improve productivity.
- Control fuel usage and monitor transport-related expenditure.
Commercial & Reporting
- Monitor fleet and plant costs, identifying areas for savings and efficiency improvements.
- Provide regular reports on fleet performance, compliance and utilisation.
- Assist with procurement of new plant and vehicles.
