We have an opportunity available to join our free range pig farming team. We are looking for a local person (within 30 mins drive from the farm) who is physically fit, reliable, willing to work hard and doesn't mind getting a bit dusty or muddy.
Our pig farm is based at Blythburgh on the Suffolk coast and the work is outdoors.
There will be an opportunity to learn multiple aspects of pig farming and tractor driving, we have a largish business and once you have proved your work ethic and reliability there will be a chance to evolve within the business should you want that.
The work is varied – tractor driving, mucking out, feeding, bedding down with straw, moving pigs, electric fence maintenance and plenty more. Some jobs are more attentive, others take a bit of graft, but it’s all part of keeping the animals happy and healthy.
Life on the farm isn’t always glamorous – you’ll enjoy fresh air, open skies, but also some extreme heat and dusty conditions in the summer, but you’ll also face rain, mud, and dark early mornings in the Winter (and we won’t lie, there’s a fair bit of hard work involved). However, if the thought of an outdoor, hands-on job appeals more than sitting behind a desk, this could be the role for you.
Experience:
- Working outside
- Previously working with pigs or other livestock helpful but not essential.
- Tractor or Telehandler driving
We are more concerned about the type of person you are, being reliable and hard working is key, everything else can be taught to you.
Hours & routine:
- Around 40 hours a week (Monday - Friday)
- One morning every weekend: around 4 - 5 hours
- Typical working day: 7:00am – 4:00pm
- Some Bank Holiday work (the pigs don’t stop for the calendar)
Who we are:
Blythburgh Pigs has been farming free range pigs for over 40 years, spanning two generations. We run two outdoor breeding herds and rear thousands pigs in our own unique free range system every year. We’re proud of the pork we produce – it’s sought after by butchers and chefs across the country who value quality and tradition.
How to apply:
Send us your CV with a cover note telling us why you’d be a good fit for the job. A CV alone doesn’t always tell the whole story, and we’d like to hear a little about you and why you'd like to do this role.
