Kitchen Porter/Pot Wash Wanted (Full-Time, Permanent Position)
The Big Cat Sanctuary is a leading charity-based organisation, committed to protecting rare and endangered cats from extinction, through education, conservation and captive breeding programmes. We're now looking for someone to join our established, passionate kitchen team.
As Kitchen Porter (KP) you will be responsible for the pot wash area of the kitchen, working with a small, passionate team to always deliver the best quality experience to our guests and visitors.
You’ll be tasked with washing up by hand and using industrial dishwashers, ensuring everything is spotless before storing it in the correct areas, readily accessible for the Chefs and Service Staff, as well as assisting with prep for our breakfasts, lunches, high teas and dinners.
Working to the highest standards, often unsupervised, we’re looking for a friendly, dedicated person with good communication skills and a great understanding of the importance of hygiene and health & safety.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensuring our kitchen, crockery and cutlery is spotless, making sure our kitchen team have clean equipment in order to prepare the menus
- At the end of service cleaning the kitchen and pot wash area in preparation for the next day
- Assist with basic preparation of food
- Knowledge of all procedures & policies pertaining to equipment usage, cleanliness, food preparation, storage and sanitation
- Ensure effective communication between staff by maintaining a secure and friendly working environment
- Personally responsible for hygiene, safety and correct cleaning and storage of equipment and utensils
Job Requirements:
- Flexible working hours subject to the demands of the business
- Able to work under pressure
- Must have a full driving license and access to a vehicle as BCS is not accessible by public transport
- Experience in a similar environment would be an advantage
- In line with the requirements of the Asylum & Immigration Act 1996, all applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK or must obtain permits to work in the UK prior to application (documented evidence of eligibility will be required from candidates as part of the recruitment process)
Details:
- Full-time, permanent role (40 hours per week, worked as 5x 8 hour shifts between the hours of 07.45 & 21.30, to cover a 7-day operation, plus overtime as required)
- Flexibility in working hours is essential, as is the willingness to work weekends
- Salary £28,080 (£13.50 per hour)
