Ecologist
Help Shape the Future of a Growing Multi-Disciplinary Practice
Many practices offer exciting projects, award-winning design and ambitious clients. We do too. What makes us different is where we're heading…
As part of our continued growth and diversification, we are expanding beyond architecture to build a truly multi-disciplinary consultancy, bringing together expertise in architecture, planning, heritage, ecology and sustainability. Our aim is simple: to provide clients with integrated advice from concept through to delivery, while creating exciting career opportunities for specialists who want to influence projects from the earliest stages.
Based in the heart of Mid Wales, we operate from three distinctive studios, each with its own character and surroundings. Our locations provide an exceptional quality of life while maintaining strong connections to clients and projects across England and Wales.
We are now seeking an experienced and motivated Ecologist to join our growing team and play a key role in the development of our environmental and ecological services.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to do more than deliver surveys and reports. You will work closely with architects, planners, heritage specialists and project teams from the earliest design stages, helping to drive sustainable, nature-positive outcomes while supporting the continued expansion of our ecology service offering.
Working across a diverse portfolio of projects throughout Shropshire and Mid-Wales, you will provide ecological advice that helps clients navigate planning requirements, biodiversity obligations and environmental constraints, while contributing to innovative and sustainable design solutions.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
- Has at least 3 years' professional ecology experience.
- Holds an appropriate degree or equivalent ecological qualification.
- Has experience undertaking Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA), UKHab surveys and protected species assessments.
- Has a strong understanding of ecological legislation, planning policy and environmental requirements across England and Wales.
- Is familiar with Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements in England and biodiversity enhancement requirements in Wales.
- Can confidently communicate with clients, Local Planning Authorities, Natural England, Natural Resources Wales and other statutory consultees.
- Has experience preparing ecological reports to support planning applications and development projects.
- Holds, or willing to work towards, membership of CIEEM.
- Holds protected species survey licences and/or mitigation experience (desirable).
- Possesses excellent report-writing and project management skills.
- Holds a full UK driving licence.
What You'll Be Doing
- Delivering ecological surveys and assessments across England and Wales.
- Preparing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessments and protected species reports.
- Advising architects, planners and clients on ecological constraints and opportunities from project inception.
- Supporting projects through planning and regulatory processes.
- Delivering Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and strategies in England.
- Providing biodiversity enhancement and net benefit advice for developments in Wales.
- Producing Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans.
- Working collaboratively within a growing multidisciplinary team.
- Helping to grow and shape our ecology and environmental services offering.
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships.
What We Offer
- Permanent full-time position.
- Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
- Private healthcare.
- Professional membership subscriptions.
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) support.
- Structured career progression opportunities.
- Opportunity to help shape and grow a developing discipline within the business.
- A diverse workload spanning residential, commercial, conservation, heritage, education and public-sector projects.
- A supportive, collaborative and ambitious team culture.
Why Join Us?
This is more than a consultancy role. It is an opportunity to become part of a practice evolving into a fully integrated multi-disciplinary business. As our ecological services continue to grow, you will have the opportunity to influence the direction of the discipline, work directly alongside design professionals and contribute to projects that create lasting value for both people and the environment.
If you are looking for a role where your expertise will be valued, your professional development supported and your work genuinely influences project outcomes, we would love to hear from you.
