Overview
The successful candidate will lead our drivers, route planning and transport operations while continually improving service levels, productivity and operational efficiency.
This is a hands-on management position requiring someone who is equally comfortable planning and optimising the next day's routes, managing our vehicles, coaching our team of drivers / draymen, analysing operational data and developing long-term improvements as we rapidly grow. Our expanding fleet currently consists of 3 x 7.5 tonne HGV's and 9 x vans.
Responsibilities
Transport Operations
- Manage the day-to-day transport operation.
- Ensure all deliveries are completed safely, legally and on time.
- Plan efficient vehicle routing and scheduling.
- Monitor delivery performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Manage vehicle utilisation and maximise fleet efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all transport legislation and company procedures.
Driver Management
- Lead, motivate and develop the driving team.
- Field daily calls and messages from the driving team.
- Manage performance, attendance and conduct.
- Oversee recruitment, induction and training of drivers.
- Promote a positive safety culture.
- Ensure drivers maintain high standards of customer service and vehicle care.
Fleet Management
- Oversee vehicle maintenance scheduling.
- Manage MOTs, servicing, inspections and defect reporting.
- Liaise with external repair providers.
- Monitor vehicle damage and investigate incidents.
- Improve vehicle availability and reduce downtime.
Logistics
- Work closely with warehouse management to ensure efficient loading.
- Ensure vehicles leave fully prepared and on schedule.
- Improve loading processes with the warehouse.
- Support future expansion into additional distribution hubs.
Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with:
- Operator Licence requirements
- Driver Hours Regulations
- Working Time Directive
- Road Transport legislation
- Health & Safety legislation
- Company policies
- Maintain accurate operational records.
- Prepare for audits and inspections.
