Supporter Engagement Officer
Location: Welsh Mountain Zoo, Colwyn Bay
Salary: £29,662.97 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week
Help turn passion for wildlife into lasting support.
Every membership purchased, animal adopted and donation made helps Welsh Mountain Zoo bring conservation to life.
As the National Zoo of Wales, we're home to more than 60 species across our spectacular 37-acre site, welcoming over 160,000 visitors every year. As a registered conservation and education charity, every pound we raise helps care for our animals, protect threatened species and inspire future generations.
We're looking for an enthusiastic and organised Supporter Engagement Officer to help grow our community of supporters and develop meaningful relationships that make a lasting difference.
The Opportunity
This is an exciting new role within our growing Fundraising Team.
Working closely with our Fundraising, Grants & Partnerships Manager, you'll take ownership of our membership and animal adoption programmes while supporting a wide range of fundraising initiatives.
From welcoming new members and developing supporter communications to helping to deliver fundraising campaigns and community events, you'll play a key role in ensuring every supporter feels valued and inspired to continue supporting Welsh Mountain Zoo.
No two days are the same. One day you might be creating adoption packs and welcoming new members, the next supporting a fundraising appeal, attending a community event or developing engaging supporter communications that showcase the impact of every donation.
What you'll be doing
You'll be responsible for:
- Managing and developing the Zoo's membership and animal adoption programmes.
- Delivering an outstanding experience for members, adopters and supporters.
- Coordinating supporter communications, newsletters and fundraising updates.
- Supporting fundraising campaigns, appeals and community fundraising initiatives.
- Acting as the first point of contact for fundraising enquiries.
- Working with colleagues across the Zoo to develop engaging fundraising content and supporter stories.
- Maintaining accurate supporter records and fundraising databases.
- Monitoring membership, adoption and fundraising performance to identify opportunities for growth.
- Helping deliver fundraising events and supporter engagement activities.
About You
We're looking for someone who enjoys building relationships and making a positive impact.
You'll ideally have experience within fundraising, supporter engagement, customer service, visitor attractions or the charity sector, together with:
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience managing databases or CRM systems.
- Confidence producing engaging written communications, including creating, managing and analysing large-scale supporter communications through email marketing platforms.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
- A proactive, positive attitude with a genuine passion for conservation and helping others support great causes.
Most importantly, you'll enjoy creating meaningful experiences for supporters and helping grow a thriving community around Welsh Mountain Zoo.
Why join us?
As part of our team, you'll help secure the future of the National Zoo of Wales while enjoying a range of benefits, including:
- Pension Scheme.
- 28 days' annual leave (including bank holidays), increasing to 33 days after five years' service.
- Enhanced company sick pay following qualifying service.
- Flexible working arrangements where operationally possible.
- Free admission to the Zoo for your immediate family.
- Complimentary access to BIAZA member zoos across the UK and Ireland.
- Staff discounts across Zoo retail, catering and experiences.
- Discounted gym membership.
- Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).
- Free on-site parking.
- Ongoing training, professional development and career progression opportunities.
- The opportunity to make a real difference to wildlife conservation and education.
