About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and motivated Youth Support Worker to join our dedicated team within a specialist SEN school. This role focuses on supporting children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, helping them to feel safe, understood, and able to thrive both academically and personally.
You will play a key role in building positive relationships, managing behaviour in a trauma-informed way, and supporting pupils with a range of complex needs, including emotional dysregulation, attachment difficulties, and social challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
- Build trusting, consistent relationships to promote emotional safety
- Support students with self-regulation, social skills, and emotional development
- Assist in managing behaviours using positive, trauma-informed approaches
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and safeguarding staff
- Help create a structured, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
- Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and unstructured times
- Record observations and contribute to support plans and reviews
- Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and resilience at all times
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with young people, SEN, or vulnerable groups
- Understands (or is willing to learn) trauma-informed and relational approaches
- Is calm, patient, and emotionally resilient
- Has strong communication and de-escalation skills
- Can set consistent boundaries with empathy and respect
- Works well within a multi-disciplinary team
- Is passionate about improving outcomes for children with additional needs
Desirable:
- Experience within SEMH, PRU, Special or alternative provision settings
- Knowledge of safeguarding, behaviour support, or youth work practices
- Relevant qualifications in youth work, social care, or education

Pay: £30,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
