Job Share Working Pattern
This post operates as a job share, with two Shop Managers jointly supporting the operational needs of the shop (9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday) including opening the shop, closing, and cashing up. Job share partners are also required to provided holiday cover for each other.
Each post holder is contracted to work a weekly average of 22.25 hours per week, as set out above (Week 1 & Week 2).
The job share arrangement is structured to ensure continuity of management, including a planned mid‑week handover period. All Saturdays are worked, with full Saturday cover shared equitably between the job share partners over a rolling cycle. Exact working patterns are agreed in advance and reviewed periodically to meet the operational needs of the shop.
Job Summary
To manage the day-to-day operation of WADE charity retail shop, ensuring it is well presented, efficiently run and welcoming to customers and donors. As the sole manager on duty, the post holder will take full responsibility for the smooth running of the shop during opening hours, including stock management, retail standards, administration and compliance with charity policies and procedures.
The role involves recruiting, coordinating and supporting volunteers, creating a positive and inclusive environment in which volunteers feel valued, confident and motivated to contribute effectively to the shop’s operation.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Responsible for the day to day running of the shop which includes being a key holder, opening and closing the shop and ensuring the premises are secure.
· Controlling shop costs and expenditure.
· Sorting, pricing, moving and handling of stock, both donated and bought in goods.
· Ensuring the shop keeps and develops unique selling points.
· Proactively generate donations of stock and maintain adequate stock levels.
· Ensure the premises are always clean and tidy and ensure window displays are of a high standard and checked and refreshed regularly.
· Working with the volunteers to ensure the shops are run efficiently and effectively.
· Report all issues to the WADE Shop Trustee and work together to resolve them.
· To read, understand and comply with all WADE Charity Policies and Procedures, risk assessments and legislative practices and ensure all health and safety policies and practices are implemented and adhered to within the Shop environment.
· Write managers’ report on a monthly basis for trustee meetings. You may be asked to attend meetings on occasion.
· Complete all mandatory training and any training deemed appropriate to competently carry out the duties associated with this role.

Management Responsibility
· Recruit, induct, support and retain a diverse team of volunteers to ensure the effective day‑to‑day operation of the shop.
· Create a positive, inclusive and supportive volunteering environment where individuals feel valued, motivated and able to contribute effectively.
· Coordinate and manage the volunteer rota to ensure the shop is adequately staffed during opening hours.
· Provide clear guidance, supervision and day‑to‑day support to volunteers, ensuring roles and expectations are understood.
· Ensure volunteers receive appropriate training to carry out their duties safely and confidently, including mandatory charity training where required.
· Manage volunteer availability, attendance and wellbeing, addressing any concerns promptly and sensitively.
· Escalate volunteer‑related concerns, conduct issues or safeguarding matters to the WADE Shop Trustee in line with charity policies and procedures.
· Ensure all volunteering activity complies with WADE policies, Health & Safety requirements, safeguarding standards and relevant legislation.
· Maintain accurate volunteer records as required and support good communication between volunteers and the wider WADE Charity team.
· Promote best practice in charity retail volunteering, encouraging teamwork, consistency of standards and a customer‑focused approach at all times.
· Make sure daily admin and financial tasks are carried out in line with Charity requirements and policy.

· Interview and induct new volunteers and correctly train them in their roles.
· Ensure that the Shop is cleaned daily.
Customer Service
· Ensure that customer service is professional and supports the ethos of the Charity.
· Ensure professional and friendly service is given at all times.
· Accept all donations politely and professionally.
· Support and advertise Charity events, campaigns and awareness issues.
· Build relationships with customers and the local community.
· Promote the role of the charity in the community.

Person Specification - Knowledge and Experience
Experience
- Previous experience as either a Retail Shop Manager or Assistant Manager ideally in retail or charity shops.
- A genuine interest in, or passion for retail.
- Experience working in a target-driven environment, with a focus on achieving sales goals.
- Experience of working in a fast paced environment.
- Able to apply commercial acumen to drive sales.
- Able to calculate sales figures.
- Demonstrable competency in the Microsoft 365 suite, including Outlook (email and calendar), Word, Excel and Teams, with the ability to use digital systems for day to day administration
- Experience of managing social media accounts and using online selling platforms, including promoting stock, engaging with customers and handling online sales in a retail or charity retail context
- Able to recognise stock potential and price accordingly.
Leadership
- Previous management experience
- Able to coach and motivate the team to achieve targets and shop standards
- Able to plan, prioritise and organise daily and administration tasks.
- Understands and supports the Charity’s social model, what WADE does and the shops retail’s contribution to WADE.
- Basic knowledge Health & Safety and Fire regulations to identify potential risks.

Pay: £15,422.81 per year
