We’re looking for a Part-Time Night Porter to join us at Auchen Castle, providing a reassuring overnight presence and making sure our guests and this very special castle are looked after throughout the night.
About This Role
As Night Porter, you’ll be the first point of contact overnight. You’ll welcome late arrivals, support early departures, respond to guest requests and calls, and provide clear information with warmth, discretion and confidence.
You’ll carry out routine security, fire and building checks; monitor access; respond appropriately to alarms, incidents or emergencies; and follow our lone-working and escalation procedures. You’ll keep accurate logs and provide a clear handover to the day team.
You’ll also help keep reception and public areas tidy and inviting, complete agreed set-up or light preparation for the morning, and make sure anything requiring follow-up is recorded. Night work calls for calm judgement, reliability and the confidence to work independently.
Discover Life at Auchen Castle
Hidden in the Moffat hills, in the heart of Robert Burns country, Auchen Castle is a restored Scottish fairytale castle set within 34 acres of private grounds. With 26 individually styled en-suite bedrooms, it welcomes wedding parties, private celebrations and special stays.
No two nights at Auchen are quite the same. You’ll join a close-knit team and be trusted to protect the calm, welcoming atmosphere of the castle while colleagues and guests rest, helping everyone wake to a safe, organised and well-cared-for venue.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
· Reliable, trustworthy and comfortable working independently through overnight shifts.
· A warm, calm and professional manner with guests, including during unexpected or sensitive situations.
· Good judgement and the confidence to follow procedures, seek help and escalate concerns promptly.
· Able to carry out regular patrols, use stairs and complete light practical set-up tasks safely.
· Accurate record-keeping and clear written and verbal handovers.
· A careful approach to security, fire safety, safeguarding, confidentiality and guest welfare.
· Flexibility to work nights, weekends and bank holidays according to the part-time rota.
Desirable
· Previous hotel, reception, night-work or security experience, plus first-aid or fire-safety training.
Safeguarding
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk. Depending on the duties of the role, the successful candidate may be required to undertake an appropriate Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme check as part of our safer recruitment process.
