At WSM Plastics we pride ourselves on making first class Injection Mould Tools to service the needs of our customers. As part of the Seko group we are now finding ourselves involved with Global projects as well as supporting the UK members of the Group, Designing, building new tooling and servicing their existing production tooling. High precision tooling is produced both in house in our comprehensive Tool Room and in the Far East where we are partnered with a reputable Toolmaker. This allows us to support the growth of the company by fulfilling large suites of tooling, meeting our customers and the group needs in the most cost effective and efficient manner This is coupled with the existing business of our own in house mould shop, which also requires the design and manufacture of new tooling and keeping their production tooling serviced to the same high standard producing moulded components for our varied customer base.
The Candidate
We are looking for confident, keen & enthusiastic tool designer who want to be an integral part of a highly skilled team as the business looks to expand and increase our capabilities for the future.
The role will support our Toolroom and New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and will involve designing and modifying injection mould tooling, producing accurate 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings, providing technical support to internal teams, customers and suppliers, alongside also assisting with the sourcing of tooling components and technical equipment.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of injection mould tooling and manufacturing processes, together with good problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively across engineering, production and commercial activities.
Key Responsibilities
· Design, modify and support the maintenance of injection mould tooling.
· Produce and maintain accurate 3D CAD models, ideally Fusion 36, Solidworks and 2D drawing packages such as AutoCAD (plus a willingness to migrate to new software).
· Review customer design changes and identify suitable tooling and manufacturing solutions.
· Review DFM reports, tooling concepts and GA drawings as part of the NPI process.
· Design prototype tooling solutions and modifications to existing mould tools where required.
· Provide technical support to Sales, NPI, Toolroom and Purchasing teams.
· Liaise with customers, toolmakers, suppliers and our overseas sister company on tooling and manufacturing requirements.
· Ensure tooling designs are compatible with existing injection moulding machinery and production requirements.
· Support the selection and sourcing of mould components, hot-runner components and other technical equipment.
· Obtain and assess supplier quotations, considering technical suitability, availability, cost and lead time.
· Maintain accurate tooling records, CAD data and engineering documentation.
· Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in tooling, engineering systems and working practices.
Key Skills & Experience
· Strong practical knowledge of injection mould tool design, construction, modification and manufacture.
· Experience with 3D CAD, ideally SolidWorks, and 2D drawing packages such as AutoCAD.
· Ability to interpret customer CAD models, technical drawings, DFM reports and GA drawings.
· Good understanding of injection moulding processes, machine compatibility and tooling requirements.
· Knowledge of tooling steels, standard mould components, machining, welding and insert design.
· Good technical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to balance technical requirements with cost, availability and delivery considerations.
· Good communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with customers, suppliers and internal teams.
· Competent use of Microsoft Office and engineering documentation systems.

Pay: £32,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
