Registered Care Home Manager
An opportunity has become available for an experienced and capable Registered Care Home Manager to lead an established residential care home.
We are looking for a confident, hands-on manager who can take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the home, lead and support the staff team, maintain strong standards of care and compliance, and help the home continue to develop.
This is a varied leadership role requiring someone who is organised, approachable, commercially aware and comfortable taking ownership of both operational and care-related matters.
The Role
The Registered Manager will be responsible for the overall management of the care home and for ensuring residents receive safe, effective and person-centred care.
You will work closely with the directors and senior team while taking responsibility for the smooth running of the home, including:
- Resident care and wellbeing
- Staffing and rota management
- Recruitment and retention
- Quality assurance and compliance
- Safeguarding
- Care planning and risk assessments
- Training and staff development
- Family communication
- Occupancy and enquiries
- Budget awareness and operational efficiency
Resident Care and Wellbeing
You will ensure residents are treated with dignity, respect and compassion and remain at the centre of decisions regarding their care.
Responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring residents receive high-quality, individualised care.
- Overseeing assessments before admission and ensuring the home can safely meet each resident's needs.
- Ensuring care plans and risk assessments are accurate, personalised and regularly reviewed.
- Promoting residents' independence, choice, privacy and dignity.
- Maintaining good communication with residents, relatives and representatives.
- Ensuring residents and families understand the care being provided and know how to raise concerns or provide feedback.
- Working closely with GPs, district nurses, social workers and other healthcare professionals.
- Ensuring changes in residents' needs are identified and acted upon promptly.
- Maintaining appropriate confidentiality at all times.
Compliance and Quality
You will have responsibility for ensuring the home operates in accordance with regulatory requirements, legislation and company procedures.
This will include:
- Maintaining high standards of care and governance throughout the home.
- Ensuring compliance with CQC requirements and relevant legislation.
- Preparing the home for inspections, audits and quality reviews.
- Monitoring care records, medication processes, risk assessments and other key documentation.
- Managing complaints, incidents and safeguarding matters appropriately.
- Carrying out or overseeing investigations where required.
- Implementing improvements following audits, incidents or feedback.
- Maintaining appropriate health and safety procedures.
- Ensuring infection prevention and control procedures are followed.
- Keeping accurate records and ensuring statutory reporting requirements are met.
Staff Leadership and Management
A key part of the role will be building and maintaining a strong, reliable and accountable staff team.
You will:
- Lead and support care staff, senior carers, domestic staff and other members of the team.
- Oversee recruitment, induction and onboarding.
- Ensure the home is appropriately staffed according to residents' needs.
- Manage rotas and staffing levels efficiently.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality and staff performance.
- Carry out or oversee supervisions and appraisals.
- Identify training and development needs.
- Ensure staff remain appropriately trained and competent.
- Manage absence, capability, conduct and grievance matters in line with company procedures.
- Promote good communication and teamwork.
- Deal with staffing difficulties and unexpected operational issues as they arise.
- Lead by example and maintain a visible management presence within the home.
Occupancy and Development
The Registered Manager will also play an important part in supporting the ongoing success of the home.
Responsibilities may include:
- Managing new resident enquiries professionally and promptly.
- Supporting admissions and helping families through the placement process.
- Building good relationships with local authorities, healthcare professionals and referral partners.
- Maintaining positive relationships with residents' families.
- Supporting initiatives to maintain and increase occupancy.
- Identifying opportunities to improve the service and enhance the resident experience.
- Representing the home positively within the local community.

Knowledge and Experience
Applicants should ideally have:
- Previous experience within residential or nursing care.
- Strong knowledge of person-centred care.
- Experience managing or supervising a care team.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
- Understanding of care planning and risk assessment.
- Good knowledge of medication management and care documentation.
- Understanding of CQC requirements and the responsibilities of a Registered Manager.
- Experience dealing with residents, relatives and healthcare professionals.
- Experience in recruitment, training and staff performance management.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Good computer literacy and experience using electronic care systems.
- The ability to maintain accurate records and implement policies consistently.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a suitable health and social care qualification and ideally hold, or be working towards, an appropriate management qualification such as Level 5 Leadership and Management in Adult Care.
Previous experience as a Registered Care Home Manager would be advantageous.

- Budget or financial management experience.
- Experience preparing for CQC inspections.
- Train-the-Trainer qualifications or similar.
