About the role
This is a hands-on, varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same.
Based at our Chequers Superstore, you'll lead both the retail operation and Collections Office, overseeing sales, donations, stock movement, deliveries and logistics across Emmaus Gloucestershire. You'll be responsible for a diverse retail environment including furniture, electricals, clothing, household goods, bric-a-brac and upcycling.
You will be responsible for maximising sales, achieving income targets, delivering excellent customer service and leading companions, volunteers and staff to achieve both commercial and social outcomes.
What you'll be doing
- Leading the day-to-day operation of our largest and busiest retail outlet
- Managing the Collections Office and overseeing deliveries, collections and logistics across Emmaus Gloucestershire
- Maximising sales, profitability and Gift Aid income
- Leading, coaching, supporting and developing companions, volunteers and staff
- Creating a positive, inclusive and motivating environment where people can thrive
- Ensuring excellent standards of visual merchandising, presentation and customer service
- Overseeing stock processing, pricing, quality control and warehouse operations
- Coordinating stock disposal, waste management and recycling processes, ensuring resources are managed responsibly and sustainably
- Acting as Primary Key Holder and supporting the security and smooth operation of the site
- Supporting companions to access meaningful work experience by transporting them between Emmaus accommodation and Chequers using Emmaus Gloucestershire vehicles, including a 16-seater minibus, together with transport to other locations when operationally required
- Working closely with colleagues across Emmaus Gloucestershire to support both retail and social enterprise objectives
- Contributing to business planning, income growth and continuous improvement initiatives
What we're looking for
Essential
- Previous retail management or supervisory experience
- Experience leading and developing teams
- Strong organisational and planning skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Experience managing stock, cash and operational processes
- Ability to motivate, support and empower others
- A belief in people's potential and the importance of community
- Commitment to Emmaus values including solidarity, inclusion and sustainability
- Flexibility to work on a rota basis (5 days out of 7), including weekends
- Full UK Driving Licence with experience and confidence driving larger vehicles, including a 16-seater minibus and vehicles up to Luton van size
Desirable
- Charity retail experience
- Experience working with volunteers and vulnerable people
- Experience of logistics and transport coordination
- Knowledge of Gift Aid
- Understanding of environmental sustainability and recycling

What we offer
Salary: £29,238.40 per annum
The salary includes an enhancement in recognition of the transport responsibilities associated with the role.
- 33 days annual leave (including bank holidays) plus your birthday off
- Pension: 4% employee / 7.5% employer / 1% HMRC contribution
