The role
Our Valuations Team in London is looking for a valuations professional to join a growing team to work on a variety of valuations engagements for financial reporting, tax and commercial purposes. You will be an integral part of our specialist, recently created specialist valuations offering, performing engagements for large corporates, SME business and high-net worth individuals.
The team
You will be part of a friendly and ambitious team which supports the partnership across the firm’s UK offices whilst adding real value to its clients.
As an Assistant Manager/Manager within the Valuations Team, you will take ownership of the delivery of a broad range of valuation engagements, supporting clients and internal teams across tax, financial reporting, transactions and commercial advisory assignments. You will play a key role in maintaining the team's technical excellence, developing junior team members and helping to build a high-quality national valuation practice.
You will often be liaising with clients at a senior level and will have a close working relationship with the Partners of the firm.
Key responsibilities
- Managing valuation engagements from planning through to completion, ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget and to a consistently high technical standard.
- Leading the preparation and review of valuation models, reports and supporting analyses across a range of valuation purposes, including tax, financial reporting, strategic and transactional engagements.
- Undertaking robust technical analysis, applying professional judgement and developing practical solutions to complex valuation matters.
- Acting as a primary point of contact for clients during engagements, building strong relationships and delivering a high standard of client service.
- Liaising closely with partners, directors and colleagues across tax, audit, corporate finance and other service lines.
- Reviewing the work of junior team members and providing coaching, training and technical guidance to support their ongoing development.
- Assisting with engagement planning, resource allocation and project management to ensure efficient delivery across multiple assignments.
- Contributing to the development and enhancement of valuation methodologies, templates, processes and quality control procedures.
- Supporting business development initiatives, including preparing proposals, attending client meetings and identifying opportunities for additional valuation work.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of valuation theory, market developments, tax legislation and financial reporting requirements relevant to valuation engagements.
You
The successful candidate will be an experienced valuation professional with a strong technical grounding and the ability to operate independently across a wide variety of complex engagements. You will ideally have:
- At least 4 years' experience within a specialist valuation team, gained in practice, a valuation advisory firm or a comparable professional services environment.
- Demonstrable experience leading valuation engagements with limited day-to-day supervision.
- Strong experience across multiple valuation purposes, including tax valuations, financial reporting valuations, transaction-related valuations and general commercial valuations.
- Experience of valuing management incentive plans (MIPs), growth shares and other employee share arrangements for UK tax purposes.
- Exposure to intellectual property valuations, purchase price allocations (PPAs) and broader intangible asset valuations.
- Experience applying option-pricing methodologies and Probability-Weighted Expected Returns Models (PWERMs) when valuing securities in complex capital structures.
- Experience valuing shares and investment portfolios held within family investment companies (FICs).
- Strong financial modelling skills, including discounted cash flow modelling and market-based valuation techniques.
- Excellent written communication skills, with experience drafting valuation reports suitable for client, tax authority, audit and other stakeholder review.
- Experience coaching, supervising and developing junior team members.
- Confidence interacting directly with clients, lawyers, accountants and other external stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines simultaneously.
