About Niorgrey Healthcare
Niorgrey Healthcare provides safe, high-quality supported accommodation for looked after children and care leavers aged 16 and 17. The service supports young people to develop independence, confidence, resilience and the practical skills required for adult life, while ensuring safeguarding, risk management and professional oversight remain central to practice.
Job Purpose
To provide consistent, respectful and outcome-focused support to young people living in supported accommodation. The Support Worker will help young people build independence skills, access education, training, health services and community resources, and remain safe in line with their support plan, risk assessment, pathway plan and the Supported Accommodation National Standards.
Direct Support & Independence Skills
· Provide practical day-to-day support that promotes independence rather than creating dependence.
· Support young people with budgeting, cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping and personal organisation.
· Encourage young people to maintain routines, appointments and positive use of time.
· Support education, employment, training and ESOL engagement where applicable.
· Assist young people to understand tenancy expectations, house rules and safe community living.
· Promote healthy relationships, positive identity and appropriate boundaries.
· Support young people to access health, emotional wellbeing and community services.
· Encourage young people to contribute to decisions about their support and accommodation.
Safeguarding & Risk Management
· Remain alert to safeguarding concerns including exploitation, missing episodes, bullying, self-harm, substance misuse, radicalisation and peer risks.
· Follow safeguarding procedures and escalate concerns without delay to the manager or on-call lead.
· Contribute to risk assessments and support plans by recording observations accurately.
· Complete welfare checks and agreed contact arrangements in line with the young person’s plan.
· Promote online safety, community safety and safer relationships through supportive conversations.
· Respond calmly and proportionately to incidents, emergencies and presenting risks.
· Maintain professional boundaries and avoid any practice that could compromise young people’s safety.
· Participate in debriefs and reflective discussions following incidents or concerns.
Recording, Communication & Partnership Working
· Complete clear, factual and timely daily records, key work notes, incident forms and handover updates.
· Share relevant information with managers and professionals in line with confidentiality and safeguarding requirements.
· Attend handovers, team meetings, supervision and training as required.
· Support communication with social workers, personal advisers, education providers, health services and family members where appropriate.
· Contribute to reviews, pathway planning and progress updates when requested.
· Promote young people’s voice by capturing views, wishes, feelings and feedback.
· Maintain respectful, non-judgemental and culturally sensitive communication.
· Report any concerns about accommodation standards, maintenance, health and safety or staffing promptly.
Accommodation Standards & Professional Conduct
· Support young people to keep their accommodation clean, safe, homely and suitable.
· Complete basic health and safety checks, fire safety tasks and environmental observations as directed.
· Respect young people’s privacy, dignity, belongings and personal space.
· Follow medication, financial recording, lone working, visitor and missing procedures where applicable.
· Work flexibly across shifts, evenings, weekends or sleep-in arrangements according to service needs.
· Uphold equality, diversity and inclusion in all areas of practice.
· Follow company policies, the Statement of Purpose and Ofsted expectations.
· Act as a positive role model and maintain professional standards at all times.
What We're Looking For
· Experience supporting young people, care leavers, UASC, vulnerable adults or children is desirable.
· Understanding of safeguarding, professional boundaries and confidentiality.
· Ability to promote independence while recognising and escalating risk.
· Good written recording skills and confidence using electronic or paper-based records.
· Calm, resilient and consistent approach to challenging or complex situations.
· Willingness to complete mandatory training and work towards relevant qualifications.
· Enhanced DBS, safer recruitment checks and satisfactory references required.
