To provide high-quality, child-centred care and support to children and young people living in an Ofsted-regulated residential home. You will help create a safe, nurturing and supportive environment that promotes positive outcomes, emotional wellbeing, independence and personal development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day care, support and supervision for children and young people.
- Build positive, trusting and professional relationships with children and young people.
- Promote safeguarding and protect children from harm at all times.
- Support children to attend education, training and appointments.
- Encourage independence and teach valuable life skills.
- Plan and participate in recreational, educational and social activities.
- Support children with emotional and behavioural needs using therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches.
- Maintain accurate daily records, reports and care documentation.
- Administer medication in accordance with company policies (following appropriate training).
- Work in partnership with families, social workers, schools and other professionals.
- Attend team meetings, supervision sessions and mandatory training.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Maintain a clean, safe and homely environment.
- Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies and challenging behaviour, following company procedures.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it).
- Full UK Driving Licence (preferred).
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Compassionate, resilient and reliable.
- Flexible to work shifts, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
- Commitment to safeguarding children and promoting their welfare.
Desirable
- Previous experience working in residential childcare or a similar setting.
- Knowledge of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
- Understanding of trauma-informed care and therapeutic approaches.
- Experience supporting children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
