Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and energetic Domestic Cleaner / Housekeeper to join our team at Nightingale House Care Home. In this role, you will help maintain a clean, safe, comfortable, and homely environment for our residents, visitors, and staff.
You will be responsible for carrying out a variety of cleaning and housekeeping duties across the care home, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection prevention are maintained at all times. Your positive attitude, attention to detail, and commitment to resident wellbeing will contribute to creating a welcoming and dignified environment for older people and vulnerable adults.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Carry out thorough cleaning of residents’ bedrooms, bathrooms, communal areas, dining rooms, lounges, offices, and other areas of the care home.
- Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, polish, and sanitise surfaces in accordance with the home's cleaning schedules and infection control procedures.
- Clean and disinfect bathrooms, toilets, handrails, touchpoints, and communal areas to maintain high hygiene standards.
- Assist with laundry duties, including washing, drying, ironing, folding, and distributing residents’ clothing and linen where required.
- Change bed linen and ensure residents’ rooms remain clean, tidy, and comfortable.
- Restock cleaning materials, toiletries, paper products, and other supplies as required.
- Ensure all cleaning equipment is used safely, maintained in good condition, and stored appropriately.
- Follow all Health and Safety, COSHH, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), and safeguarding procedures.
- Report maintenance issues, hazards, accidents, or concerns to the relevant manager promptly.
- Treat residents with dignity, respect, and kindness at all times.
- Support the creation of a warm, friendly, and person-centred environment for residents and visitors.
- Work collaboratively with care, kitchen, and management teams to ensure the smooth running of the home.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Previous cleaning, housekeeping, hotel, healthcare, or care home experience is desirable but not essential.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and cleaning products.
- Understanding of infection prevention and control procedures is advantageous.
- Ability to follow instructions, cleaning schedules, and policies accurately.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and committed to maintaining high standards.
- Flexible approach to working shifts, including weekends and bank holidays where required.
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience working in a care home, hospital, hotel, or healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of COSHH and Health & Safety regulations.
- Laundry and linen management experience.
- Customer service experience.
- Basic food hygiene knowledge (if assisting in dining areas).
