Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive and commercially minded Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team, focusing on residential groundworks and plotworks.
The ideal candidate will be a recent Quantity Surveying graduate with ideally at least 1 year’s experience within residential plotworks/groundworks, gained with a groundworks contractor, civil engineering contractor or housebuilder.
You will support the commercial management of residential developments, working across packages including roads and sewers, drainage, foundations, substructures and external works.
This is a great opportunity for an ambitious Assistant QS looking to develop their experience and progress within the residential groundworks sector.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the commercial and financial management of residential groundworks and plotworks projects.
- Support the preparation of valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
- Assist with cost reporting, forecasting and budget monitoring across live developments.
- Measure and value works completed on site.
- Assist with identifying, pricing and agreeing variations and additional works.
- Support subcontractor procurement, including enquiries, comparisons, orders and payment assessments.
- Review drawings, specifications and site information to assist with accurate measurement and cost control.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and supporting documentation.
- Work closely with Site Managers, Contracts Managers, Engineers and the commercial team to monitor project performance.
- Assist with monitoring labour, plant, materials and subcontract costs against project budgets.
- Attend site and commercial meetings as required.
- Help identify commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure company commercial procedures and contractual requirements are followed.
Requirements
- A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related field
- Ideally 1 year’s experience within residential groundworks/plotworks
- Previous exposure to residential developments is highly desirable
- Strong numerical skills with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, measurements and contractual documents
- Good communication skills and confidence working with site teams, clients and suppliers
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with CostX or similar estimating software is advantageous
- A motivated and commercially minded individual who is keen to learn, develop and progress within Quantity Surveying

Pay: £25,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
