The Leith Hill Practice is a friendly, well-established GP practice providing high-quality care to our local community. We are looking to recruit a caring and enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our supportive clinical team on part time, permanent basis.
Working across our two practice sites, this is an exciting opportunity for a an experienced Healthcare Assistant or someone looking to build a long-term career within General Practice. We are committed to developing our staff and offer ongoing training and support to help you expand your clinical skills.
We operate across two sites:
- The Old Forge Surgery, 168 The Street, Capel, RH5 5EN
- Northbrook Surgery, Warwick Road, South Holmwood, RH5 4NP
Due to limited public transport links, access to your own transport is essential.
About the Role
As a Healthcare Assistant, you will work alongside our GPs, Practice Nurses and wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. You will undertake a variety of clinical duties while supporting health promotion, chronic disease management and preventative healthcare.
We are keen to invest in the successful candidate and will provide training and development opportunities to broaden your skills and progress your career within primary care.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake a range of clinical procedures within your competency, including:
- Phlebotomy
- Blood pressure monitoring
- ECGs
- Height, weight and BMI measurements
- Urinalysis
- NHS Health Checks
- Spirometry and FeNO testing (training available)
- Support chronic disease monitoring and annual patient reviews.
- Administer vaccinations and immunisations where appropriately trained and competent.
- Assist clinicians during minor surgery and other procedures.
- Prepare and maintain clinical rooms, ensuring they are clean, well-stocked and compliant with infection prevention and control standards.
- Maintain accurate electronic patient records using Systmone
- Promote healthy lifestyles and support patients with health education and wellbeing advice.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide safe, effective and compassionate patient care.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who has:
- Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant within a GP Practice, community or healthcare setting.
- Experience of phlebotomy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A caring, compassionate and professional approach.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Confidence using IT systems.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A willingness to learn and develop new clinical skills.
Skills / Desirables
- Phlebotomy (Essential)
- Experience of ECGs (Desirable)
- Experience of Systmone (Desirable)
- Experience of NHS Healthchecks
- Care Certificate (Desirable)
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent)
