Full-time Laboratory Technician required to work in the culture media department in a busy ISO 17025 accredited food, cosmetics, water, and environmental microbiology laboratory based in Bournemouth (Wallisdown area).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a working knowledge of laboratory equipment, procedures and SOPs and apply these effectively in day-to-day duties.
- Prepare culture media for microbiological testing.
- Prepare sterile laboratory glassware
- Assist with general laboratory tasks, including capping tubes, refilling pipette tip boxes and labelling Petri dishes.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation and tidiness throughout the laboratory.
- Follow laboratory procedures and quality requirements accurately and consistently.
- Support colleagues with other laboratory duties as required.
As we are a dynamic laboratory undertaking a wide variety of testing, other duties may be assigned to the role when necessary.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is preferably educated to degree level
- Has previous experience working in a laboratory environment, although training will be provided for the right candidate.
- Has excellent attention to detail and consistently works to a high standard.
- Can work methodically and accurately using established procedures.
- Is able to work independently using their own initiative while also contributing effectively to a team.
- Can work efficiently under pressure and has good organisational skills.
- Has good verbal and written communication skills.
- Understands the importance of maintaining high standards of laboratory hygiene, safety and confidentiality.
