About the Role:
Birmingham has become one of the UK's fastest-growing technology hubs, and at FlightSim Fanatic Technologies Ltd, we're building cutting-edge flight simulation software that delivers immersive, high-performance virtual aviation experiences. Our applications combine advanced rendering technology, realistic physics, and modern graphics engineering to create products enjoyed by aviation enthusiasts and professional users alike.
We are looking for a Graphics Software Engineer (C++ / OpenGL / DirectX / Vulkan) to help develop the visual engine behind our next generation of flight simulation platforms. This is more than writing rendering code—you'll help shape the graphics architecture that powers realistic environments, aircraft systems, and high-performance real-time visualization.
You'll work alongside experienced software engineers, technical artists, and product specialists to solve challenging graphics problems while continuously improving visual quality and application performance.
Why Work With Us?
Innovative Projects: Work on advanced flight simulation technologies that combine real-time rendering, physics, and software engineering to create immersive aviation experiences.
Modern Development Environment: Our engineering teams utilize modern C++, Git-based workflows, continuous integration, and industry-leading graphics APIs including Vulkan, OpenGL, and DirectX.
Technical Growth: We encourage continuous learning through professional development opportunities, technical workshops, and industry conferences to help you stay current with graphics programming and rendering technologies.
Collaborative Engineering Culture: Engineers actively contribute to technical discussions, architecture decisions, and product innovation in an environment where great ideas are encouraged regardless of seniority.
Key Responsibilities:
Graphics Engine Development: Design, implement, and maintain high-performance rendering systems for real-time flight simulation software.
Rendering Optimization: Profile CPU and GPU workloads while improving rendering performance, memory usage, and graphical fidelity across supported platforms.
Graphics Features: Develop advanced rendering techniques, shaders, lighting systems, terrain visualization, and visual effects using modern graphics APIs.
Software Engineering: Write clean, maintainable, and efficient C++ code while following established software engineering best practices.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with software engineers, technical artists, QA engineers, and product teams to deliver high-quality simulation experiences.
Code Quality: Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, debugging sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the software development lifecycle.
What We Are Looking For:
Experience: 3+ years of professional experience developing graphics-intensive software applications using modern C++.
Technical Skills: Strong experience with one or more graphics APIs including OpenGL, DirectX, or Vulkan, along with a solid understanding of real-time rendering pipelines and GPU optimization.
Programming Knowledge: Experience with shader programming (GLSL or HLSL), 3D mathematics, linear algebra, multithreading, and performance profiling tools.
Development Tools: Familiarity with Git, debugging tools, and modern software development methodologies.
Communication: Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly within cross-functional engineering teams.
Mindset: You're passionate about graphics programming, enjoy solving complex technical challenges, and take pride in building scalable, high-performance software that delivers exceptional user experiences.
