Primary School Reading Support Volunteer
We are very excited to launch our new internet café, Digital Doorway here at Howdon Community Hub.
Duties may include:
Customer Service & Hospitality
- Welcome visitors warmly, explain how the internet cafe operates, and help them get settled.
- Help keep tables, seating areas tidy throughout the shift.
Tech Support & Troubleshooting
- Assist customers with logging into the Wi-Fi network or accessing public computers.
- Help users with basic computer tasks, such as setting up email accounts, browsing the web, or printing documents.
- Troubleshoot minor equipment issues (e.g., paper jams, restarting routers, connecting devices) and escalate complex technical problems to staff.
- Ensure users adhere to internet safety and cafe usage policies.
Person Specification
- Tech-Savvy: Basic digital literacy; comfortable using laptops, tablets, and smartphones, and able to guide beginners.
- People Person: Friendly, patient, and empathetic with excellent communication skills.
- Reliable: Punctual and committed to scheduled volunteer shifts.
Level of DBS check requiredAn Enhanced DBS check with the Barred List information for Working with Children would be required.
