Graduate Structural Engineer – 2–3+ Years’ Experience
SCB Structures are looking for a Graduate Structural Engineer with a minimum of 2–3 years’ post-graduate experience, ideally gained within the residential sector.
We are a dynamic and fast-growing structural engineering consultancy working on a wide variety of projects across the residential, commercial and industrial sectors.
Our projects involve all principal construction materials, including steel, timber, masonry and reinforced concrete, giving our engineers broad technical exposure and the opportunity to develop experience across a diverse range of structural forms.
The Role
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate their technical experience through a portfolio of previous work and should be confident working both independently and as part of a team.
We are particularly looking for someone with experience in:
- Structural design, particularly within the residential sector;
- Hand calculations and a strong understanding of fundamental structural engineering principles;
- Producing clear engineering hand sketches, details and design information;
- TEDDS;
- AutoCAD;
- Working with architects, contractors and other construction professionals;
- Managing their own workload and taking responsibility for individual projects;
- Working effectively under pressure and meeting project deadlines.
Experience using Tekla Structural Designer would be an advantage, although this is not essential.
The right candidate will be enthusiastic, organised and proactive, with a willingness to take ownership of their projects while working closely with our wider engineering team.
The role will provide the opportunity to be involved in projects from the early stages of structural assessment and design through to detailed design and construction.
As part of the interview process, candidates should expect a technical discussion and short assessment covering fundamental structural engineering principles.
We are interested in understanding how you approach engineering problems, apply first principles and develop practical structural solutions.
What We Offer
In return, you will have the opportunity to join a small but rapidly growing structural engineering consultancy where your contribution will be recognised and where you can gain exposure to a broad range of projects.
- A varied workload across residential, commercial and industrial projects;
- Exposure to different structural materials and forms of construction;
- The opportunity to manage and take ownership of your own projects;
- Support and mentoring from experienced Chartered Engineers;
- Support towards professional development and ICE Chartership;
- Opportunities for career progression as the company continues to grow;
- Workplace pension scheme;
- Annual holiday entitlement;
- A friendly and collaborative working environment.
How to Apply
If you feel that SCB Structures could be the right environment for the next stage of your career, we would be pleased to hear from you.
Please email your CV and portfolio, including examples of hand calculations and engineering sketches, to [email protected], for the attention of our Office Manager, Jem.
